Fatigue

Just wondered how peoples fatigue makes them feel as Im not sure if I am suffering MS fatigue or not?

Hi Helen63, my fatigue feels like someone has pulled the plug out and I am completely wiped out. It’s interesting though because fatigue is described differently by every person who has it, which is most people with ms unfortunately… Make sure you rest and try to pace yourself, although this is always easier said than done! xx

I think mine is mild in comparison to a lot of the others on here. It is still, really, horrendous!! It’s the one symptom that I don’t cope with very well! I hate feeling like a zombie! Mine makes my right eye blurry, I can still see through it. I find it hard to explain as I can feel it, in the strangest possible way, before I notice it. It can feel like a dry spot in my eye. Also, I feel really heavy. Like a lead weight. Luckily, for me, if I sit for a while the worst of it eases. Unfortunately it comes back though if I do too much. Hopefully you’ll start to feel better soon, good luck Debs xx

I feel totally drained, my brain turns to mush and my arms and legs become lead weights. Sometimes this can be late in the day or as soon as I get up!

Feels like sludge in my veins and weights on my ankles and wrists - it’s like being hungover but without getting to enjoy the fun part of the night before!

I just need to lie on the sofa and sleep. It varies from week to week - sometimes I just need to sleep even if I haven’t done anything, other times I can do stuff round the house but then am completely whacked (how I imagine you would feel if you’d run a marathon or how I’ve felt when I had a really, really late night before MS).

There was a short piece in the Guardian a couple of days ago about how research from Sheffield Hallam University has shown that a few minutes of moderately intensive exercise (eg walking or cycling) can reduce MS fatigue. They say ‘It seems illogical to turn to exercise as a way of managing fatigue but the results showed that a pragmatic programme based on short bouts of moderately intense exercise can really help improve symptoms and quality of life.’ Just off for my run then …

Just noticed the exercise and fatigue story is also on this website - sorry to repeat.
