Falling over

Hi everyone,i was Dx’d back in 2009 after subtle symptons but i have progressed since then, Peeing, balance, memory walking e.t.c but of late people have noticed i have been tripping and stumbleing more,i was aware of this but naively thought others wouldn’t, i have had a few falls and did so at work the other day. I try to stay as active as posiible but have become very apprehensive,is this simply further progression?

Mark.

Hi mark Definitely progression in my opinion. I stumble on a daily basis and this occasionally leads to a fall. One of which lead to a split nose!!! I told people I was drunk. I do not know of any ‘cure’ as such but I do recommend a physio appt. Good luck Flopsy

It may not be what you want to hear Mark, but would it be safer for you to use a stick, if you dont already do so?

Mark, Flopsy is right, you need to see a physio who’ll help you. Your GP can refer you. In the meantime you need to think of your safety, have you got a stick? If not you can get them really cheaply on eBay, look up Folding Walking Stick. I was self conscious when I started using one but I’d much rather people looked me up and down for having that than disgracing myself or getting injured falling. A physio will make sure you have the correct aids but for now at least you’d stay safe.

[/quote] Yep it was my first thought. I had to overcome this and walking with a stick helps tremendously. So if you dont already please give it a try, I went from one to two to crutches and am now permently in a wheelchair, I say this not to alarm but Ihad to give up each tool at my disposal graciously over a twenty year time period. All of these tools are to help and not to mark you out as disabled

The stick was hard for about 2 minutes… then I overcame my pride and never looked back.

I wish I could cope without it but the falls are just not worth it! The tripping up was the first thing I noticed so I suppose I’ve kind of accepted that it was bound to be the most annoying thing.

I have a couple of physio appointments lined up and I’m really hopeful about that, I have gotten lazy but I’m blaming the meds quite firmly on that, lucky me got the ‘rare’ side-effect of muscle weakness on Baclofen & Tizanidine. I’m hoping that things will improve a little now and I will start doing something at least!

The thing I can do and would recommend, is stretching - when walking gets difficult, the chances are at least one muscle is suffering for it

Hi Sonia

I hope your physio appointments prove beneficial to you, take care.

Thanks Pam,

I’m trying to check on those appointments at the moment, they’re 12 days apart and the letters sent on same day so a bit suspicious whether there really are 2 appointments?! I saw a physio a few months ago and thought I was going to receive some details of exercises to do… nothing received til now!

Thank’s to everyone who responded to my post. When i return to work i am going to see what adaptations need doing to assist me.I consider myself fortunate as i work for a large employer who i’m sure will oblige me with my request to make my working enviroment easier for me. I have of late started using a stick but as i appear to be perfectly O.K perhaps don’t use it as much as i should “the saying pride before a fall couldn’t be more true” so out comes the stick.

A little while ago i posted how my left leg was always freezing cold,i mentioned this to my Neuro’ and he said this was a sympton of M.S and that he was going to contact my G.P to prescribe med’s, but i wondered if in the meantime there is some kind of stocking i could wear to keep my leg warm as even wearing long johns and thick socks help only slightly, any advice would be appreciated. In the meantime i hope you all have a very Happy New Year.

Mark.
