Hi Just gone through my first relapse, one of the symptoms was numbness and weakness on the left side of my face, now that gas subsided but I have a constant tremor in the exact area that was affected, it is slightly raised so the other side of my face now looks like it has weakness. Anyway, my questio is, has anyone experienced this and do they know of any medication the doc might give me to stop this?? Might save me a phonecall if it’s just something that will go with time.
It is Bell’s Palsy which I had first at age 17, again at age 50.
It does go away but leaves small reminders if I am tired or drunk (those were the days).
B12 is good for it and for MS in general.
See your GP and see what he suggests.
Meanwhile your eyes are probably dry if you cannot close your eyes when sleeping, ask your doctor and ask for some eye drops.
Hi, I had that in 1999 down my left side of my face, it went away a few weeks later, only to happen again in 2005, it feels like you have been to the dentist and the face is numb. It will subside, there is no drugs that will help you with it, the nerves have been damaged by the ms relapse. Like catwomanCarol, it’s when you are tired it plays up, it leaves a weakness in the left side of your face. I’m sure your’s will improve. I take Baclofen for the tremors in my left hand, prescribed by the GP. Take care.
Thanks all, its not the weakness that’s the issue now, it stopped a week ago and I got all the feeling back, its npw all very tense and I have a constant tremor from my top lip up to my eyelid, me eye is nearly trying to close the whole time rather than not, I’ll see what the gp says when they open.
I had Bell’s for the 2nd time just after Christmas last year. It lasted 3 or 4 months and I’ve still got a slight wonky smile. However, in June something weird started going on with my eye, it was sort of as if my eyelid had drooped. Over the next few weeks I discovered that if I looked over my left shoulder my eye closed and the same would happen to a lesser extent when I chewed something. Now, my left eye isn’t as wide open as my right. When I’m reading from my laptop my left eye partially closes too.
When I spoke to my neurologist he explained that as the nerves had tried to heal themselves after the Bell’s they’d got a bit mixed up and done so wrongly. He called it Aberrant Reinnervation. He did say that I could be referred to the occular plastics team to have the nerves rerouted. I’ve asked for that referral just to see what exactly is involved and if it’s worth doing. No news of an appointment as yet!
Sometimes my nose twitches and the side of my cheek, feels weird but part of the same thing!
Don’t know if this is what you’re experiencing.
Sarah
Thanks Sarah, that may be it indeed, its certainly very similar, I have very short periods where its back to normal but its literally 30 seconds and back to the twitching and tense muscles, trying to chill a bit more after the excitement of Christmas to see if it eases a bit tomorrow. Just glad the relapse eased for Xmas.
Do you get that lip twitch that feels like you should be an Elvis impersonator?
Thankfully not! I wonder if botox would ease the twitching.
