Hi. I have had a m.r.i which shows 5 areas of inflammation on my brain which my neurologist says it looks like m.s, but my lumber puncture results are ok? Im confused is this still. M.S

Hello Dawn

You really need to ask your neurologist that question. Something like 80 to 95% of people with MS have positive LPs. Bit this leaves up to 20% of people with MS who have had negative LPs.

Basically it will probably depend on your physical examination, your history and the MRI. Some brain lesions are not MS lesions, maybe they aren’t demyelinating lesions. Or maybe they’re not in the ‘right’ place to be MS lesions.

It’s one of those ‘in limbo’ positions which are so horrible to be living with.
