Anon, are you taking any medication which might cause this to happen ?
[quote=Anonymous]
I have an extremely embarassing problem as a result of MS. I have slight issues with bowel control, and although pelvic floor exercises, bowel training and watching my diet has really helped a lot with controlling bowel motions, I cannot do much about breaking wind. Involuntary farting isnāt a lot of fun, and with a bad case of flatulence, it would really be better for me to be on a remote hillside somewhere.
Does anyone have a tip for a medication or remedy so that I can at least control it during romantic evenings with my loved one?
Hello anon
Just want you to know, that no one on this link was laughing at you. I hope when reading through the messages you will have noticed that you have been given some good advice. We have also shared some of our embarrassing stories in the hope of helping you see that your not alone in having this problem. We were actually laughing at ourselves
I personally find if you get too stressed, this can make things worse with the bowels. Try and find ways to relax in generalā¦I find meditation to be helpful.
If this is a new relationship, I can apprecitate this will be more awkward. If the relationship is well established I would suggest its something you could discuss with your partner. Because the reality is anon, everyone at some time suffers with flatulence.
I hope your ms nurse can suggest some preventitive measures for you.
I wonāt be making any more comments on this link
I wish you well anonā¦take care
Thank you for all of the replies and particularly the one suggesting charcoal tablets - that sounds like a plan! I often find farts hilarious too! Itās just that, at some point, or in some situations, it just isnāt funny any more - I mean, if no one knows Iām the culprit, itās fine, but if they do, and I didnāt do it on purpose, itās a whole different story! For example walking around the office going parp! as you walk is NOT amusing, or standing talking to your manager and breaking into a cold sweat because you know you are about to gas them is also not something I chuckle about later.
Thanks again for all your messages - Iāll let you know if the charcoal tablets work! Until then, Iāll try to fart unobtrusively or, failing that, merrily and unapologetically.
Oh, I can relate to this one and sometimes it is funny if Iām at home or in a crowd so it isnāt obvious it is me. But when you are at work and there are only two of you and you are squeezing your bum cheeks so hard and nothing is going to prevent the foul gas escaping it really isnāt so funny then. I wish I had the courage to apologise and explain that itās the MS that makes me so disgusting but I try to pretend it didnāt happen even though neither of us can breathe for the noxious fumes! I hold a Cake Break every year at work and pin up a list of symptoms as a subtle hint and I hope that most of my colleagues that knew me before my MS days know that I never did this before.
I find if Iām constipated, the farts are far worse. As my nurse said when I discussed it with her āThereās a distinct smell to constipation, isnāt there?ā However apart from eating more fruit and veg, she didnāt have much advice for me. At least if I have ābeenā I can be fairly confident they wonāt be quite so deadly.
I wish you luck, anon, and if you do find a cure, please share it.
Tracey xx
Hello there, I just want to post myā penny worthā (no pun intended!!) I can relate to you Anon and really admire your courage in posting this. You see, I also have found involuntay passing of wind to be very embarrassing and I always seem to blush which really āblows my coverā ā¦
Anyway, did you ever hear the one about the lady who went with her husband to church one Sunday? well, they sat right up there at the very top row and all of a sudden she whispered into his ear 'O my Gosh Tom, Iāve just let out a silent one what should I do?" And Tom replied⦠āI think you should get new batteries for your hearing aid!ā
Ro - that made me laugh!!!
I still have to try the charcoal tablets, but lately it hasnāt been much of a problem at all. Stress does indeed seem to have a negative effect - what Blossom says about this is true I think.
