East access bath or walk in shower ? wet room ??? any advice plz

Just been on the forum and thought I would ask you all if you have experience of wetroom, v walk in shower v bath with door and seat ?

I really miss being able to have a bath so have been looking for one which I can safely use with a seat inside but as we only have one bathroom it needs to have a shower over bath as well for other family members.

Any recomendations very gratefully recieved.

Hi, I also miss having a nice long soak in a bath. Due to some nasty falls when getting in or out of a regular bath, we decided to go for a wet room.

I did consider getting one of those baths with a door, but they are expensive and if you use a bath seat for safety, you cant get the water deep enough for a soak.

I got an OT to assess me and recommend to the Adaptations Agency, at the council, that I have a wet room installed.

But the waiting list was so long…after waiting 9 months and then ringing the council to ask where I was on the list…finding I was number 160…I bit the bullet, got a bank loan and had a wet room installed by a professional plumber. Hubby did a lot of preparation and finishing off.

I now have a gorgeous wet room, which I call Hollywood, it has back galaxy wall boards, instead of tiles, a designer vertical black glossy radiator and chrome shower fittings. The mirror is an infinity one, which is like looking deep into a fairy grotto!

I have chrome and black accessories, and a teal roller blind and towels. It all cost around 6k.

I hope you manage to get what you want enjoy it as much as I do mine.

Hi, I have a walk in bath with a door with a seat. Over it I have a shower and a juccussi (not that I have used it). I would recommend it as you are completely safe, no where to fall. I’m afraid I have no idea how much it cost as we moved in and it was already here, but I am well chuffed as I can shower or bath whichever I like. Hope it helps. Janet x

Hi and thanks for your reply,s.

I think the biggest problem will be cost so that may well be the deciding factor.

Hi Ell, have you tried requesting a Grant from your local Council? I got one for my low level shower. It suits me, as I can wheel myself into the shower room and back myself onto my shower seat. I know things have got tough with Councils, but it could be worth a shot. Trevor x

I’ve just had my bath taken out and a walk in shower installed. I love a bath but the warm water makes me drowsy and since I also have epilepsy, it’s not safe. Councils have a long waiting list; my occ health quoted over a years wait  I couldn’t wait due to losing my independence so had to borrow money to do the work. Had the whole bathroom done for approx 3.5k and kept costs as low as poss. K
