Hello, I am curious as to the road to final dx, and wondered, how many of you were dx with migraine and how long for, prior to finally getting the dx of ms. I was sceptical but accepting of the migraine dx initially, and quite relieved to be honest, but always had an inkling there was more to it. Are there any of you out there who have experienced the same.
I’m not sure mine counts as I was diagnosed with migraine before MS but I didn’t have any obvious MS symptoms at that time, so it was a correct diagnosis in my opinion. It might show a progression though.
Hello anon I was referred to neuro after about two year of headaches/migraines. The last thing I expected was a diagnosis of ms. I have psoriatic arthritis…it’s possible that may have masked a lot of ms type symptoms. That’s just my thinking…I could be wrong Noreen x
Never had a migraine and rarely have a headache but diagnosed with MS in 2000.
Hiya,
Yes; MS does cause headaches but they can be worse and more constant with Sticky-Blood. See http://www.hughes-syndrome.org/ otherwise symptoms mimic MS.

I began to suffer with hormonal classic migraines at the age of 40 which followed the same course as my mum. I then had my first clear MS symptoms at 44. Migraines are certainly more common amongst MSers but I don’t think I was misdiagnosed at the age of 40 as I didn’t have any other symptoms. I do sometimes wonder just how much of a link there is between migraines and MS but then I shove those thoughts aside and get on with life …

Hi,
I started with what I now know to be migrainous vertigo at the age of 9. I was diagnosed with ms in 2002 after having a relapse in 2001 where I got pins and needles in my right side. I have had vertigo, various episodes over the years and put it down to ms. It wasn’t till my ms nurse suggested I saw the dizzy neuro last year that I was diagnosed with MV. The neuro couldn’t see any scarring in the area associated with ms vertigo although I’m not sure which causes the bad balance.
I now know many of my symptoms are actually migraine. I get buzzing vibrating feet when I know my migraine is bad. I also have loose bowels and need to go urgently when it is bad. I have also had speech problems. Many neuro symptoms can be caused by migraine.
I am now classed as a chronic migraine sufferer as I suffer everyday. I am now on migraine preventatives and they have helped hugely. Everyone is different, Pizotefen did not much but Amitriptyline is doing great stuff in combination with the diet and keeping stress out of my life.
The heal your headache book is very good by david bucholtz.
Pm me if I can help further. I am a classic case of ‘never put everything down to ms’

Oh and I was dx with ms at the age of 24. I’m 36 now.
I have suffered with migraine since age 12. I never had a proper diagnosis of them because my dad suffered from them so my parents just said its migraine. Krissy
I have suffered from Migraines/headaches since i can remember which would be about 5 years old, had various tests ect when i was younger, tried various diffrent preventitvies such as pitzofen and zomig none of which worked, been on naratriptan for a long time now and these take my migranines away when i do get one, have amitritalyne as a preventative along with di clofenac, was diganosed with rrms last year after suffering from optic nureitis and then a bout of inflamtion at the top of my spinal cord which caused pins and needles all down my left side, optic nuretis was on left side and funnily enough most of migraines are on the left side too! I’m now 32 and have learned to live with them, you can also buy imgran in boots over the counter, that is fab works almost with in half an hour, if i am really ill with a migraine i buy these, exspensive though, over 8 pounds for 2 tablets but worth the releif they bring
