Hi
My diagnosis has changed and I’m now have progressive Ms. My consultant put that down and now the DVLA are interested.
Just wondered if anyone has had a DVLA assessment at a driving centre?
Just wanted to know what I should expect?
Thanks

Hi
I’ve had 2 driving assessments over the years. I have push pull hand control’s, it was a bit like a driving test they were mainly interested how i coped with main stream traffic. Try not to feel nervous show them you are confident with your driving.
There was no theory test, but it is possible. It was just the on the road test lasted about 45 mins. Good luck.

Hi,
I had a driving assessment recently and was advised to change the accelerator pedal from right side to left side. Because my right leg was giving problems. Which I have done, everything ok so far, will have to go back for another assessment. I drive an automatic. x
Hello,
I needed adaptions to the car the main thing I had installed was a Safe lever electronic accelerator and mechanical brake, by TSL. Also I had a swivel seat for getting out and in the car. Got my freedom back.

Hi Greeneyes, interesting post. I went to a motability event recently (UK) and got try some steering wheel adaptations. So strange, you have to get your head around the change.
There are a couple more motability events coming up so going to test drive a car with further adaptations. A swivel seat sounds like a good idea, I struggle twisting and getting my legs into the car.
Are there any adaptations that the DVLA need to know about?
Hi
Yes you need to tell them about any adaptions like hand controls etc and they will adjust your licence. You also have to advise if your drive an automatic only.
I went to the driving school. Very nice and put me at easy. Completed the test no issues. They advised on some additional adaptions.
Still waiting on DVLA re the decision. Thats been since November. I’m so stressed with it now.
Driving is my life line.
Like Kielyn I have push pull hand controls it really gave me my life back, I suppose they may ask for a driving assessment when the license runs out.
Good luck to everyone who has go through this.

I have am appointment to have a test with what they call over ring accelerator which is fitted over the steering wheel. Which they say requires little hand strength.

Hi, I have what they call a Trigger Accelerator it allows you to push down with your thumb to accelerate and push forward on the handle to brake. You would need to check it out first worth a look. Driving is my life so motability have been a great help.
