Diagnosis quick should I worry

Hi, I think I’m trying to worry more than I need to, but wanted to know other people’s thoughts. I have read over an over stories where people have struggled to get a diagnosis and have had to have several tests and Doc visits before MS is the diagnosis. I had 1 MRI and within 3 days the hospital had called my Doctor with the news it was MS. The symptoms I have had have been constant since last December changing every week but always there night and day. I’ve realised after reading the list of symptoms I have had MS a while just never put 2 and 2 together. Anyway my concern is will these symptoms ever let up, they are not bad unless I’m tired but it would still be good to wake up and feel normal for a day or two. My other concern is does it mean I’m more likely to have the progressive type as the symptoms have not let up. Just so many questions going around my head, I’m off to the neurology clinic this Thursday but kinda want to be a but prepared before I go . Many thanks

A newbie to the site

Hi Dianne,

Sorry I’ve not got answers for you, I developed double vision on Thursday and had and MRI and saw neuro yesterday, with a probable diagnosis of MS.

It’s all been very quick, so I’m a bit stunned.

Just wanted to wish you luck at your appt.

Mish.xx

that was super quick, were you in hospital or something ? im no expert so couldnt say im just learning myself and still waiting to have neuro app to go over extra tests i had done

Hi thanks for your comments, I had gone to the Docs blaming my varicose veins for the blood boiling in my legs and bum and bladder issues and wanted them out again and then commented my right side had an odd sensation and numbness and the Doc twigged from the symptoms it was MS and the veins were not to blame and sent me for a MRI , the professor called through to the Doctors about 3 days after the scan saying there were several areas showing damage . I’ve no idea if they want to do more tests or just explain what the future holds,it just worried me it has all been so quick , it’s been great that I’ve not waited for anything but nerve racking to why it was so clear on the one scan. Mish, can I ask the double vision was it like you were drunk double vision or more subtle ?. I’ve always thought my eyes were good but just a bit blurry from tirdness but thinking possibly it’s more than that, did the neurologist do eye tests on you ?. When will you a full diagnosis of MS ? When you suffer more symptoms or have you more tests .

Kizzy what more tests do you have to have ? What symptoms are you experiencing ? I’m a bit worried they will want to do a lumber puncture yuk

good luck you two with your appointments

Dianne

hi ive had mri on brain and neck had lesions on brain but none on neck had a lumber puncture wich was negative and i promise it was nothing bad like i was expecting the thought of it was much worse, also had a lumber mri no results yet was only done last week, thought i was discharged but told this afternoon im getting a recall and thats about it so far, did he say it was definite ms cause i dont think they will make you have lp and stuff if they have enough evidence already but im not sure really so i might be wrong about that

Hi Kizzy, blimey you have been through the mill with all the tests. do you think the recall is from the results of the lumber MRI? The Doctor said on my MRI they found several areas on the neck of damaged nerves so the diagnosis is MS, the appointment with the neurological dept is in a couple of hours so I will hopefully find out more then, I’m feeling less nervous today than yesterday, I think just talking to you guys helped. I still have the occasional bouts of tears as I still have not 'manned up ’ but I’m nearly strong again just hoping I don’t get tearey eyed in the appointment !!!.

Good luck with the recall and let me know how you get on

hiya not sure what will happen at recall, gd luck at yr appointment today and dont worry about crying its a lot to take in, maybe write yr questions down before you go thats what im going to do as its easy to get there then forget and be mad afterwards cause you didnt ask  let us know how you got on

hi dianne how did you get on yesterday ?

Hi Kizzy, the appointment went well thanks for asking, I feel much more positive now I think basically I’m less scared as I know the future may not be as bad as I thought it would be. I’m going back to meet with the consultants and meet my MS nurse in about 5 weeks. They will then start me on my drugs to help prevent more relapses.

This new drug you are taking is it to help with symptoms or to stop more relapses ? Did they say what side effects may occur as you are suffering from some which sound scary

aw thats gd im glad you are feeling more positive now, new drug ?

Yep I will update you when I go to see what’s best to suit me, I bloody hope it’s not the injections as I have coped with a lot throughout life but injecting myself is not something I could cope with, I suppose it comes down to the side effects etc and as long as I can have my odd glass of wine to keep me sane I’ll be okay. At the moment my teenage daughter is wearing a full torso brace for 21 hours a day for the next 2 years at least so I can’t grumble if I do have to have an injection once a day it’s just I hate injections !! , I hope you are getting to enjoy the sunny bank holiday
