good evening everybody I’m looking for some advice please. I am 31 years old been a type 1 diabetic for 22 years. I have tried extensive research regarding the symptoms of MS, many are linked with diabetes but a few other symptoms are not diabetes but MS related so I would really appreciate if anyone could me any advice. I find it hard to walk very far or stand for longer than 20 minutes at a time but in the last 3 months I get severe pains from my shin upto my pelvis area and such terrible lower back pains I’ve started to get pins and needles in my hands and my arm goes numb and tingly sometimes for days on end (the feeling you get if you sit on your hand too long. on a good day I won’t get any cramps but my fingers seize up and cramp into a fist. sharp stabbing pains shoot through my feet. I find balance sometimes hard and have fallen down the stairs 3 times in the last 3 months. my short termmemory is atrocious not very often but I get a burning inside my belly literally like I’m on fire and I can’t get a lung full of air, plenty of deep breaths won’t fully fill my lungs. my depression and anxiety have gotten dramatically worse and I’ve suddenly developed mood swings and get increasingly agitated quickly.
Hello Jo
Well, first of all, it’s impossible to tell what could be wrong from a list of symptoms on a forum, addressed to non medical professionals.
Secondly, it’s very hard to differentiate between your diabetes and MS. Some of what you write sounds like it could be MS, and some doesn’t. So maybe there’s a neurological problem and maybe not
I suggest you see your GP; having written down your problems will help as you can try to unpick with your GP what’s normal for you and / or diabetes and if s/he thinks referral to neurology is indicated that’s what s/he will do.
Meanwhile, it’s not a very nice way of living to have strange new feelings and medical symptoms. Try not to self diagnose with help from Google. It will just frighten you. Make yourself an appointment with your GP and try not to worry.

thank you for your reply. Google is my own worst enemy and I have been driving myself mad. i guess i wanted to see how many of my symptoms could possibly be MS or some other underlying neuro problem.I’ve been putting the Dr’s off for months now when they first started. I actually went to my gp last week with the intention of addressing this but I was too scared to talk and came away with a kidney infection. I have however gained the courage and have an appointment today.
