Hi, I haven’t been formally diagnosed with MS but my neurologist believes this is likely and possibly relapse/remission. I am still waiting on an MRI but I am just wondering what exactly is relapse/remission. Is remission periods where you have no symptoms whatever or do you have symptoms but they are mild. How long would a relapse phase last for? The reason I am asking this is because I have had daily symptoms since January although until recently they were very mild. It is only in the last couple of months that it increased in severity where I actually went to my gp. In the last couple of weeks since seeing the neurologist I have had additional symptoms which I didn’t have before I.e. numbness and weakness in left hand, burning tongue, dry eyes, sharp pin prick all over my body including scalp and in last couple of days have been tripping over my feet. I am not sure if this is the relapse phase and the milder period was remission. A bit unsure by it all to be honest.
hi daffodils
a relapse is when you develop a new symptom or existing symptoms get worse.
get checked for a UTI because if this is present you will be having a pseudo relapse.
remission is when you are no longer having new symptoms or the old symptoms have calmed down.
many people notice some mild increase in disability from a relapse.
that is why we are offered DMTs to reduce the risk of relapses and hence increased disability.
the MRI will show any new damage.
good luck

Hi Carole, thanks for explaining that. That’s been very helpful. I don’t think I have a UTI but will get it checked out. x
