Afternoon all, Hope it’s lovely and sunny where you all are. I have a quick question. On and off now for the last 12 months, I have had this horrendous crushing pain in my neck. It’s as though someone is behind me and putting ton weights on the base of my neck where it joins the start of the shoulders. It usually coincided with a relapse, but I am suffering at the moment, but not feeling run down or fatigued in any way. Does anyone else suffer this and is it possible to relapse with a return of old problems without feeling ill or fatigued? Thanks J x
Anyone?
Hello J
I don’t know if its a relapse…I’m primary progressive. When did you last have a scan/x-ray of your neck? perhaps you should be discussing having one done with your GP.
I’m just thinking, that everything doesn’t have to relate to MS…maybe make an appointment and get it checked out.
Good luck xx
Hi
I have rrms and occasionally get a very achy neck. I am a primary school teacher and used to running around a lot. if I’m on a course or sat still for a while my neck feels like it can’t hold up my head! Grrr, very tiring but not sure it is linked to ms.
Hot water bottle and rest.

Hi and thanks for the replies. The last scan was back end of last year, nothing showed. No sign of a disc prolapse, but there are some symptoms which I think are connected to the neck. Maybe I should ask the gp and see what they suggest. Thanks again J x
Hi,
I’m SPMS and I get a lot of neck and should pain, so much so that I have to wear a scarf in bed, yes you reed that right, a scarf, I do it to try and keep my neck warm and in place, otherewise it goes really stiff down the side of my neck and into my shoulders, bloody painful, when it gets realy bad I put the heat pad on in a morning and do some neck exercises, I also go for India head massages which seem to help, my neuro knowsabout it, btthe only thing he ca offer is for me to increase my Gabepentin, which I don’t want t do, I’m determined to try and sort myself out when it comes to my MS, why not try the heat pad, good luck. x
Great idea I am sure I have one somewhere. Thanks for the advice. J x
Hi Miss
I posted on this topic two days ago but for some reason it hasn’t showed up!
Anyway I suffer from a painful neck, which feels as though somebody has grabbed the back of my neck with their hand and is squeezing really tight. My head also feels really wobbly as though it is too heavy for neck to support it. It really is a bizarre feeling which normally accompanies a foogy head moment. It doesnt happen all the time, but I have had probably three episodes over the last year Each episode lasts a couple of days.
I have a lesion apparantly on the back of my neck where it meets the shoulders and I think that this is probably the cause. I am undiagnosed though, but have a probable diagnosis.
Hi number 08 Thanks for your reply. I think this is my main worry. The other day completely out of the blue I had a spasm in my neck. Now ordinarily it would not have worried me as a single symptom, but because I have systemic neuropathy which is track able from the part of my neck that is affected, I do keep worrying that a cervical lesion is a cause. I guess I will have to get in touch with someone who can investigate it further. J x
