Covid vaccine & MS science (please no conspiracy theories)

hi. I have highly active Rrms that is being well managed by Tysabri but due to a load of delays & mismanagement along the way I’m at an edss of 6.5.

ive been reading that the vaccine being trialled at oxford works in part by mobilising T cells to fight off covid… is that safe for a person with highly active ms? Aren’t my aggressive T cells what cause the damage?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-53469839

please no Bill Gates etc conspiracy theory discussion - I saw another thread get completely derailed by that tangent. Does anyone know what the risks of mobilising T cells to fight covid might be for an ms patient? I have university library access and a STEM PhD so would be particularly interested in published research available that any of you may have come across. Thanks.

Please excuse my typing - I’m not well today and my hand has been left damaged by a severe relapse years ago that never fully healed.

Hello, The best resource u have seen is the Bart’s MS Blog. They have a covid microsite on there. I won’t pretend to understand all of it but if you’re from a science background then it will make more sense to you #MS COVID-19 Updated effects of disease modifying drugs on COVID-19. – The MS-Blog Hope it is helpful

the peculiar thing with this m.s. is that whatever question you ask you can’t get a straight answer.

Developing a vaccine is the ‘easy’ bit - getting it approved is going to be, rightly, very difficult.

Hi

It’d be worth speaking to your MS nurse or neuro about it. If this vaccine posed a risk to those on particular medication though, I’m confident it won’t be made available to you.

Dan

Thanks everyone
