Cannabis Legalisation Campaign For Medicinal Purposes

It pains me to say this but I am starting to think Martin is not genuine. Is this a company out to make a financial gain…it sickens me to think we’ve been duped.

Perhaps “Martin” would come on and defend himself…just wondering where he’s disappeared to?

I am unable to form a view on the authenticity of the poster either way. I certainly don’t understand the import licence bit, as the limited availability of Sativex is clearly down to prescribing policy, and nothing to do with there not being enough of it in the country. So even if it was imported by the ton, I can’t see it making much difference to patients’ chances of getting it.

I will say, though, that you cannot look up “anyone” on 192.com. In fact, anyone who has opted out of the edited version of the electoral roll (the one that is made available to third parties like 192.com) won’t be on there. It doesn’t mean the person isn’t on the real electoral roll, or can’t vote. Only that they have opted out of their details being sold on to third parties. I’m not on there, for example. I’ve just double-checked, and am very pleased to say my opt-out has worked.

So absence from 192.com is absolutely NOT proof a name is either fictitious, or doesn’t correspond to a UK citizen. It might simply be that the person ticked the box to opt out, thus reducing the amount of junk mail they get.

Tina

You won’t find me on an electoral roll…one is allowed to opt out of having names etc published. Also many people never return the forms as they have no intention of voting.

Liz.

This has taken an interesting turn.

We have made a habit of ticking the box for “opting out” for several years now, so I have just checked my own name.
Surprise No 1 - up came my name.
Surprise No 2 - it was for the 2002 Census.

So, the 192 organisation clearly have a lot of old records on file.

I must admit, Liz, that I had never considered the non registration, on grounds of no intention to vote. Of courser, some day there might be someone worth voting for …

Geoff

Geoff,

If you are at all concerned about the record still being publicly available (though probably irrelevant if you have since moved), they have a form to request removal:

http://statics.192.com/rel-4b71/downloads/C01.pdf

Obviously, this will not have the effect of removing it from any other databases to which it has been disseminated, though.

Tina

Back to the original post, Sativex is a no go where Iam so this maybe an avenue i may try.

Thanks for putting a link to this petetion, Signed.

I put my name and town in that 192.com and it didnt find me im on the electoral roll

I can see why so many people have left this forum. Can we just go back to the op?

Darren

Let’s be fair Darren, nothing has been said here that’s offensive.

I’m really concerned that this is a company that is just using us. I would be really upset if we have been conned into signing this petition.

Martin joined this forum two days ago and not been back since.

Its not wrong to question is it Darren surely…I don’t want to upset anyone, I’m just concerned and want some reassurance

Hello,

Maybe a message to the original poster would have been better?

Darren

Why Darren?

Back to op.

Ok Darren, I’ll keep my fingers crossed that the “op” comes back on.

By the way!! his name is Martin

I have not entered this discussion but I feel I should now put my pennyworth in.

Martin if my mum needed it and I had to go against the Law; I would.

Illegal drugs are arguable the biggest problem facing mankind. When are we going to realize that prohibition does not work? We in the west; so called first World Countries must make sure the farmers of the Poppy or Coca Leaves earn legal money to support their families.

I’d like to widen the discussion because I have lost my one and only; lovely son whose drug addiction and eventual demise started with Marihuana that lead to Crack.

It’s a very hard decision but I think we should go like Portugal and de-criminalise every drug. Why are drugs so rife? Because pushers earn lots of money. The Police and HMC will not stop this trade although they do well; they will admit that.

Take away this by putting all drugs free under the NHS and you instantly stop 60% of people in jail stealing to fund their habit, drug barons making vast fortunes. Less people in Jail think of the money saved, we would even have room to incarcerate real criminals like motorists. Police would be able, and have the man-power to concentrate on real crime.

Our schools are becoming ideal places for pushers to ply their evil trade, take away their money making; I won’t say earning; trade and you will have no pushers.

Did you know it’s very rarely the drug that kills but the st it is cut with, and sometimes it is st.

A little added bonus, the NHS would be able to buy supplies from Peru or Afghanistan; the tribal leaders would soon realize it is more profitable to sell drugs legally. I believe it is assumed that 40% of money from Cocaine is estimated to go to Al Keida to fund terrorism?

The disaster lead by Bush and that puppy Blair in Afghanistan is waiting for our great troops to get out and The Taliban will reintroduce their outdated law again. Women will become second class citizens and schools will be outlawed

The greatest advantage though is that all drug users would be known and helped kicking the habit.

In Portugal it was thought that de-criminalising drugs would make it the drug capital of the world. What has it done in reality, reduce drug taking by 10% in a year.

We must start thinking outside the box and stop just thinking it’s wrong so we will ban it. This is not a self inflicted problem it is pure pier pressure, you must take a couple of Es to enjoy yourself all night, others do?

Society cannot prohibit much if anything, what happened with Alcohol prohibition in the USA? All it led to was the rise of the Mafia.

Reasons for de-criminalizing

  • 60% less in jail
  • Less Jails needed
  • Less staff
  • Drug Barons get no money
  • Police/HMC can concentrate on real crime
  • Less Police/HMC needed
  • Stop drugs being sold in schools
  • Drugs given to people would be clean
  • Addicts can be monitored and possible weaned off
  • Would be able to buy drugs from Afghanistan
  • If done correctly it could turn that campaign into a win

Reasons to not de-criminalise

  • It is not morally right

You have my vote -

I’m probably more miffed that Sativex is not NICE approved because:

a. I gave up smoking last year so hardly want to smoke now

b. I am on my 3rd set of nasty meds (liver function test anyone?!) that I need to try before I would stand a hope of being prescribed Sativex…

c. I have smoked it legally (in Amsterdam) and there’s no way I could go about a days work afterwards!

For years the medical properties of cannabis have been talked and known about, and there’s finally a medicine made with it and I can’t try it to see if it works for me (while leaving me effectively sober).

My biggest challenge with MS is trying to function normally, so actually, I have no interest in smoking it legally OR illegally - but gutted I cannot see if it helps with the spasticity in my legs! It would seem like a far better option than the filth I’m being prescribed but there you go!

Sorry if this is unpopular but I’d love to take meds that don’t cause me bodily harm and alert would be amazing!!!

Hi Folks,

I lost the post and couldnt find it again. Still learning the ins and outs of the M.S Site. I had no idea it would get such a response.

Few things I would like to say.

Firstly to doctor jeff:

It is no great mystery why a social media campaign is starting. I started it. The petitions and the thunderclap and soon the facebook and google+ and twitter accounts to follow. The reason I signed up to the forum is because I only just found out about it. In doing research for the campaign I wanted to get off the ground I thought I had better check a few things about sativex. So I thought the M.S website might have it. When I saw the forum I thought Cool! Maybe M.S sufferers themselves might want to be involved or at least would understand what i am trying to achieve. It always seems to be taboo to discuss the legalisation of cannabis and i thought i may get a bit of support on here.

As for the language used, well you are reading waaaaay to much into that dude. We in this case mean…well basically it means…anyone who will bloomin well help me to be honest.

As for the second bit. Well I take it you live in England? I just assume that because you are taking about pct and care commissioning groups etc. I am in Scotland. Different system but I have asked for it to be reviewed by the NHS, currently pending. But it all boils down to the fact that why should someone have to use a foul tasting horrible spray (if they get that luxury) when they can take a plant, smoke it or cook it or make it into tea. Its about choice and that is all I am saying.

As for myself personally. This is not just an M.S thing to do with my mother. I have M.E, I have serious pain issues in both my legs and the drugs prescribed to me in order to allow me to relieve that pain leave me seriously tired, made worse by the M.E. To add to the problem, i need to be lucid to care for my mother, nobody else is going to do it. So I thought to myself one day - i will try cannabis. What did i get 2 days into it. Relief from the pain but I also ended up with a warning under section 23 of the missuse of drugs act and a boot up the rear end from social services.

As for your questioning of the notion that big business dont want to see it legalised…thats not a notion. It has been proven - sativex makes millions for the parmacuetical industry. Legalise the plant and there goes the profit margin. It also has other uses, many many uses, not just for medicine but for instance, did you know the frame of the first model t ford was made from a composite material made from hemp (male plant). Its true and it was 3 times tougher than steel. You can make everything from clothes to bags to furniture to pretty much anything made out of steel. So to say there is not vested interest in ensuring it isnt legalised is just daft.

As for everyone here. If you wish to check and see if I am a real person Redirecting.... My name will come up in russian (because my fiancee is russian) but if you stick it into google translate you will see it comes up Martin Kittins (my name is actually Martin Keatings but …ach dont ask…russian language gives me a headache)…lol

Anyway, there is no company here. Just me fighting against the world and I hope someone out there hears me roar.

Hi Anna,

My understanding is that it doesn’t actually cause paranoia, but it can cause issues and exasperate problems for people with a predispisition to paranoia.

It is blossom, I am a real person not a company or something like that…or at least i was when i looked in the mirror this morning…lol

Hello Martin

I’m glad you’ve come back on to chat and share pleased to know also, your a real person lol

I have signed your petition Martin although I don’t personally agree with taking cannibis or any illegal substance. I do believe in individual choice though and healthy debate is good.

I was in nursing and seen the horrible results of drug abuse…I personally could never condone it but that’s just my opinion.

I know what your asking for your mum is totally different.

I really wish you and your mum well and think she is very lucky to have you there for her.

Take care
