I am looking to book a private appointment with a neurologist to speed the process along. I have already had a brain MRI and lumbar puncture both suggestive of MS but it’s now a 20 week wait until my first neurology appointment with a subsequent 25 week wait for treatment. I don’t have private medical insurance, I’d pay myself and be fed back to the NHS for treatment. I found one guy but after checking online reviews it seemed like he didn’t want to take on patients that wouldn’t be long term private patients. Many thanks, Sam
If you think it might be MS, you could find out who is the MS specialist in your NHS area – i.e. probably the person you’ve already been referred to on the NHS – and book to see that person at his or her private practice at your local private hospital or whatever. Whether that speeds anything up is another matter, but at least you’d get to have a chat and have them take your history and examine you.
You’ll find who’s who online. If you have a helpful GP, he or she also might be able to advise.
I wouldn’t bother too much about personal recommendations by the way – I think it’s probably more important to see the right person local to you
Thankyou that’s really helpful, I’ll contact my GP on Monday
Good morning Sam.

Oh ok - that may be a bit far. The GWH in Swindon has the Shalborne unit where I know that some neurologists take private consultations. My consultant speaks highly of a chap called Stephen Hinze. It may be worth a look if you’re determined on that route
