Campervan/ Motorhome

Hi everyone,
My wife and I have sailed extensively for the last 10 yrs but it’s time to sell our old yacht as my mobility is now pants. Although yachts are easier to get around safely than our front room.
We still want to travel so plan to buy a motorhome or campervan and would like some advice.
I can walk very short distances with two sticks. Anything further and I need my mobility scooter - a Pride Gogo Elite Traveller Plus, which is great and is a proper boot scooter, that must be accommodated.
We intend to do trips in Ireland, Scotland and Italy.
So whilst we know about boats we know nothing about land based travel so are looking for advice from the experts i.e. any of you lovely people who’ve been there.
Many thanks

Adam

Ah, motorhoming! A great past pastime of mine and hubby’s.We spent many happy years roaming England, Wales and a bit of Scotland.

We tried a variety of van conversions, from panel van conversions, to bigger coachbuilts.

Latterly hubby built 2 campervans., to suit my everchanging needs. But eventually we had to give it all up. It became too much for both of us. But boy! did we have a fab time while it lasted!

So what do you want to know?. Oh buying a MMM mag is good.

Ah well everything really but specifically anything an MSer would need to know but wouldn’t necessarily have thought of. Our budget will be about 50k.
We are planning on visiting a couple of shows this winter to start to get our ideas together. We’re not planning on buying one until probably the winter next year.

Oh e.g. what’s an MMM mag

Thanks
Adam

A Motorhome can have a long life.

I would suggest going for an automatic so you could fit hand controls later on. Size is a compromise. The bigger it is the more difficult is to find stopping places enroute. However storage becomes easier.

We bought our Campervan before I developed MS so went for the smallest van that had a proper bathroom. It fits in a disabled parking space. It was great and with discipline we could be away for weeks at a time.

Now it is a bit small to accommodate a mobility scooter.

A friend with MS makes use of her slightly smaller van as a day van with all facilities onboard.

Think about how you will use it now and in the future. We typically stay one or two nights and stop between sites. Also we stay off grid at festivals and pubs etc.

I think it’s the Motorhome Magazine - written by motorhomers for motorhomers.

Your post has got me thinking about looking at motorhomes as well!

Mine is a medium term plan. Currently my wife and I sail but that’s coming to an end.
There’s a couple of shows coming up so we’re visiting them to get ideas.
We don’t need too much room but we do need an automatic and room for my boot mobility scooter. Once we’ve done the show I may add anything I thinks useful to this post
We want to have a decent trip around Italy as sailing wise we’ve done the UK, Baltic Spain and Portugal but never got to Italy and we just love all things Italian
