As the topic name suggests been a wee while. Since i last posted not got much apart from trying to insert a cathater, twice. Once with the nurse secondly by myself. It is NOT for me bloody sore, now the main reason for posting. Said before i was disgnosed with relapse remitting MS in April, May 2007 but now my legs are giving out big time. Yes i still try to do walking football but only lasting 20 minutes and then my legs are done. That and trying to get my head around getting nordic walking poles. It was suggested by the MS nurse, i think too many nurse’s now lol but it kinda scares me as for the first time my MS is stopping me doing normal thing’s. Sorry for the feeling sorry for myself post. Just not felt like this since i was diagnosed
Hi Paul. I think you were diagnosed in more or less the same years as I was. It’s my right leg that struggles- after around 15 minutes. Somehow or another I’ve just got used to it.
Use a scooter for any distance over 10-15 minutes and when pottering / working in the garden I just grab the whatever is nearest - actually have two handles/ sticks from a broom and a rake. Yeah, it’s all a bit of a downer but I’ve got used to it and still manage to get out and about and to enjoy life. Being 70 years old somehow makes it all a bit easier to accept - I convince myself that at 70 my mobility would be decreasing anyway
I’ve been using two hiking poles if it’s any distance for more than 15 years. They’re great. Two’s much better than one, but added value trails off pretty sharply above two. Seriously though, it’s a thing to get over of course, but then weaving about looking half-cut isn’t a great look and falling over is a worse one (as I know all too well atm). Good luck and please go for it. Honestly I think you’ll feel the benefit.
I like your inventive streak there. Now am only 46 (not often i can use only at that age lol) it is taking some getting used to
Half cut thought it was just me and my pals said that. But i did like your 'i have 2 poles anymore and the usefulness depreciates comment.
Just a thought about catheters, have you tried different sizes? They vary in diameter as do urethras, so it might be something as simple as trying a narrower one. I know exactly what you mean though, even the narrowest one was bloody painful for me. I ended up using the conveen sheath eventually, which really was a game changer because it meant I no longer had to worry about being caught short. You can see what they look like on the Manfred Sauer website and they can send you a sample if you need to try one.
Just about the same age I started using them.
I take on board what you are saying about other catheters, you sound like the nurse who said to me she had to try one out herself. The theory is sound, i just wish i was on my game when she said that to me. Ok stealing an old joke here. I should have said to her… "you have had baby, compare that to the size if my japs eye THEN we can talk. Joke i kinda butchered therr was jack dee in the early 90’s
