Hi, I take baclofen. I have looked in the leaflet that comes with the tablets and can found no reference to lloresal. I have not heard any thing to say that it is being discontinued. That would be very bad news.
Hi Qprdee, Are you sure it’s not just the branded version, Lioresal, that’s being withdrawn, and you’ll still be able to get generic Baclofen? As a general rule, branded drugs are much more expensive than their generic counterparts, even though the active ingredients are identical (there may be cosmetic differences in appearance or packaging). I’ve no idea whether Spanish prescription drugs are state-subsidised or state-funded, like ours are, but if so, it would certainly make sense to ditch the expensive Lioresal (paying extra only for the name) and substitute the cheaper generic equivalent. Here in the UK, I’ve never had Lioresal, and only ever generic Baclofen, which seems to come from a variety of manufacturers, as it varies from prescription to prescription, and sometimes even within the same prescription. Last time, I had two boxes in one style of packaging, and two in another. I double-checked, and all are definitely Baclofen. The only difference is that one style annoys me, because they’re much harder to get out of the blister pack! Tina
many thanks for your replies, i had a phone call from my gp and he is going to ring the neurologist at the hospital and get back to me. tablets were originally baclofen then name changed to lioresal, but in spain who knows from one day to the next - all good fun x
