back problems

Afternoon all…

i am still awaiting firm diagnosis but as you all know this is a long rocky road filled with time consuming appts so I thought I would ask your expert opinion before i go and see the GP.

I have had right sided weakness and numbness including facial, hand and foot with an inability to lift my foot when it is very bad.

For the last few weeks I have had a severe pain in my left side of my back. The pain also seems to be linked to the fact when it is bad, I cannot get my legs to lift further than a little bit off the floor no matter how much I try. I have tried stretching and warm packs with no avail and it comes and goes. I normally have no mobility problems but this seems to be happening more often as the weeks are going on and strong analgesia doesnt help. I cannot (at its worse) even lift my leg into the car!!

Does this sound like a common problem for anyone here? If it sounds quite a common complaint I will endure and wait til i see the neuro next but otherwise I may need to go see my gp. Thanks for any assistance

I know a lot of MSers with bad backs - I’m pretty sure that walking awkwardly puts a lot of strain on our backs, but there could also be neurological reasons for it. So this new problem of yours may be related to your other symptoms, or it may be something completely different. Tbh, it doesn’t really matter - if it is giving you problems, you should seek help now and not wait. Physio referrals (for example) can take a long time so better to get one in the pipeline asap - it’s probably all the neuro will recommend anyway. It also sounds like you need stronger painkillers. No point in suffering in silence!

So, if I were you, I’d be asking for help for it and not waiting for the neuro appointment.
