auditory hallucinations voices frontal lobe lesion/ damage

Does anyone know does an eeg of brain waves that has flat periods mean no brain activity during checkerboard testand could be because of brain lesions already seen on mri causing lack of blood supply or oxygen?.Wile test happerning leg was kicking spontaneously…xxx julie

Hi Julie,

No, as I mentioned before, I’m pretty sure it does not mean NO brain activity anywhere. It might just mean none in the visual cortex, which is the bit they’re interested in.

If hubby’s leg was kicking, there must have been brain activity of some kind, even if it was involuntary. Movement, even if it’s unintentional, could only be triggered by something from the brain. If there was no brain activity whatsoever, I don’t see how he’d be kicking, or doing anything. So there must have been activity, just not in the bits they were measuring. It’s not a measure of whole brain activity - just visual.

Hubbys been hearing voices again it came out in a conversation other night ,think his brain playing tricks on him ,not long now till mri scan of spine, and lumber puncture done. MRI next week, lumber puncture week after.Still no appointment for blood tests but i bet they are a busy department.Hopefully when all tests come together neurologist will give us clear answer as they have mri already found the lesions on brain.Helped hubby fill out dla form for change in condition, 38 pages long it gave us head ache he has just got to sign form .Made me laugh they expect people to measure walking distance .We used google virtual man to walk distances to work it out and converted feet to metres.lol xx julie

Hi guys,

A little off topic for MS - but I came across this when I was researching my condition. In October of 2010 I had a drunken fall from a 20 metre overpass onto the road, I was in an induced coma for 2 weeks and spent 2 months in hospital because I had a broken foot, knee, femur, shattered pelvis, broken hand, elbow, sternum, C6 vertebrae and eye socket. The damage my head took, as deduced by the doctor at the Melbourne Brain Institute had informed me that I had minor brain damage, from the brain sliding back in my skull and slamming into the front of my skull causing damage in the front left of the brain - also where the damage is.

This damage has been causing me to have seizures, seemingly from when I am stressed, both times when I had exams (I am a full time Uni student here in Australia). After my last episode a little over a month ago I have been put on Epilim (Sodium Valproate) which has caused vomiting, nausea and diarrhea. After explaining these with the doctor at the Brain Centre I was told to reduce from 200mg in the morning and 400mg at night to just 400mg at night, as well as being given a new drug Lamotrigine Sandoz, which is 25mg at night up to 100mg increasing by 25mg each fortnight which is to help control my seizures, however I have being waking up groggy and as though I am drunk or haven’t slept at all, which the doctor said I could be me having more seizures at night time.

I have also been hearing voices and things when I am home alone, or misinterpreting what people are saying when in earshot. I hear cars pull up the drive way and my roommate talking to her dogs and when I go to check because she hadn’t come inside for a while I saw the she wasn’t there. I have also heard people (while they were actually outside) speaking and I thought they were saying negative things about me, when they were actually talking about desserts. I’m just thinking that maybe the auditory hallucinations are more related to the frontal lobe damage than the MS.

I hope you guys see this!

Thanks

I have a friend who has nightmares/hallucinations and she has right frontal lobe lesions.
