As suspected (community transport)

Tina, l am exhausted too - had a hospital appointment at the rehab/assessment clinic about 25mins drive away. l found a parking space in a blue badge area but the walk to the clinic door was a long way. l used my trusty rollator. By the time l found the clinic l had dragged myself a long way. On the letter it did state that l could arrange for transport - l know why now. And the physio said that if l ring them first they would come and collect me from the car with a wheelchair. This is the first time in 31yrs l have been ‘seen’ by physios for my ms. ln January l did see a neuro who has really got the ball rolling. Two weeks ago l went for a bone-density scan. Now he want me to see a orthotist about a splint. But l have tried them in the past - so l told the physio that what l need is a walkaide fes. She is refering me to a hospital some miles away for an appointment - and the waiting list is 12months. As l am going in to hospital next week for a hip-op there was no physio l could do today. l overheard some patients who were in the room talking about there ‘illness’. Two of them have nerve damage/pins and needles/ damage to the myelin - all things that sound like MS - but they called it - two words - something-then Barry or Garry. Didn’t like to butt in and ask more - without the first word l can’t google it. They were all very pleasant - and they said l can go back for physio after the op to help with my new hip. They had lots of interesting exercise machines including a power plate [ vibro gym] which could be used by someone in a wheelchair. They also mentioned that the neuro wanted me to see the MS Nurse - now this would be a first. l have only heard about them on this site - so they do exist. They were surprised to know l had never seen one. As rare as hens teeth.

Hope you can sort out the transport problem Tina. l live in a little rural village - no buses but lots of good neighbours willing to help. l and my OH often take neighbours to hospital appointments or to the shops. OH loves shopping so he takes 2 or 3 old dears every week to do their shop. lts nothing for him to come back having been to Tesco/Morrisons/Aldi/Lidl.

You really should bite the bullet and get in contact with the MS Therapy Centre. A specialist CAB person visits - they are a specialist in all things to do with MS, apart from the doctor type stuff.

They are nice there, and just want to help.

I’ve got to go now, the tea is burning! I’ll be back later.

take care

Ellen

Campion - I think the disease you are referring to might be Guillain Barre Syndrome (hope that’s the right spelling)

Yup, thats the one tay, I was admitted to hospital with suspected Guillain Barre Syndrome, and came out three days later with suspected MS

Well done - you clever lot. Guillain Barre - l will look that up. The chap that was talking about it had a very brummie accent and all l could hear was the ‘barry’ bit - as he called it - the name looks French. Thanks for that.
