any advice?

hi,

i’m going to get a scooter, any suggestions?

i want one of the larger one’s, one that does 20+ miles and goes 8+mph.

advice greatfully accepted,

ben

I have an Invacare Comet. It does about 30 miles on a single battery charge and does 8 mph. It has a big comfy captain’s chair and is supremely comfortable and stable to ride. I love it to bits. I live in a semi-rurual area and it copes really well with all sorts of terrain.

Here is one on ebay at the moment. No, I am not selling mine

The Shoprider Cadiz. It is only 2’ wide, has suspension front and rear, tall narrow tyres and mine achieves a jaw dropping 10MPH.You know the legal limit on the road is 8MPH,but the situation is akin to cars NEVER being driven in excess of 70MPH.I’ve had it two years, and travelled over 3,000 on the roads. It’s needed one set of batteries, new tyres on the back,a re-build on the motor and work done on the electronics, total cost ~£500.

The range depends on the weather, the gradients encountered, the road surface etc. It will do ~20 miles on the flat, but I’m not Dutch so 15 miles is expected on a warm day,but on a crisp windy day 10 is about right. It has an embarrassing ‘limp home’ facility which it did a couple of times last March, after 6 miles in the frost with the final dregs of the original batteries. With care I can bump it up a 6" kerb and did drop it off a 10" cliff once.I’ve removed the anti tip over backwards wheel things and despite my best efforts haven’t gone over backwards.

I would be knackered without it. I go on bridalways, trains(always reverse up the ramp),around shops and apart from stairs can go wherever a well upholstered human can…Small and nippy

Hi Ben,

I have a TGA mystere, very robust and is supposed to do c. 20 miles although more like 10-15! I go through woods etc on it and it copes well.It does 8mph.

V comfy captains chair that swivels around, v happy with it.

The only downsides for me is that the range reduces quite a bit with extra weight aboard (shopping and extra christmas weight)!

I got mine through the motability scheme so you get breakdown cover and servicing which has been used for the odd puncture etc.

I was able to have a test drive which was important as I looked at a couple before deciding. It is an important decision, well at least for me as it is my equivalent of a car.

Good hunting, best thing I did.
