After first neurological appointment

Im in the no support club too. Consultant diagnosed and ran, no other info, steroids and then discharged. Been chasing the ms nurse for 3 weeks and no contact yet. Totally rubbish !

Ha, I have written a huge email to my neurologist today to push for DMDs and the MS nurse to contact me (I’ve only been waiting the week for the nurse to call, I should be more patient, like I said I would be).

Afferent Pupillary Defect (APD) or Marcus-Gunn pupil is a condition of the eye where the pupil doesn’t dilate appropriately to the level of light reaching it. This will often result in one pupil appearing larger than the other (relative afferent pupillary defect - RAPD). This person with APD is often unaware of it except by looking in a mirror.

There are many causes of APD including Optic Neuritis (ON), glaucoma and optic nerve tumor. In multiple sclerosis, APD, is usually associated with damage to the optic nerve resulting from ON.

The reasons why afferent pupillary defect occurs with optic neuritis are complicated and involve the neuroanatomy of the visual pathways. Put simplistically, the eye in which the ON has occurred acts as if it is in a lower light situation than it really is and dilates more so that it can let more light hit the retina.

Hi George thank you for explaining I didn’t have a clue, can I ask if this can come and go, since being told this on my neurological appointment, my pupil has gone normal, and then randomly large again, wasn’t sure if this was normal.

also just to inform people I have had my appointment through for my evoke brain and spine nerve testing appointment it’s this month, and an appointment with the eye hospital which isn’t until October, still waiting for my Mri, hoping it will be soon, as I’m sure that will hold the answers I’m waiting for x

i will admit I have had a horrendous week, pain levels reach a high, sleep is non existent, and mobility is not worth even trying, I’m praying that this subsides soon,

hope everyone is keeping strong and things are not to bad for you x

all the best
