Affecting the outcome of the General Election

Greetings, and I hope the weather isn’t affecting you and yours too badly. I believe that if you want to do something which could alter the outcome of the next election…Mount a campaign to ensure that every disabled person in the country has a Postal Vote.

I think this would do two things:

  1. Ensure that every single disabled person entitled to vote, can vote no matter how their health is on Polling Day,what the weather is doing,or whatever transport difficulties there may be.

2.Tens,if not hundreds of thousands of applications for the postal vote would probably come to the attention of this Government and the Opposition Parties…Who knows, this may alter policies,or Election Pledges

If memory serves (megalol) you’ll need to prove your ID and have 2-3 witnesses and signatories for the initial set up.After that everytime there is any sort of election, you get the paperwork a couple of weeks before. The different envolopes seem daunting, but the system is logical, and I guarantee you’ll have forgotten it by the time the next election comes along.

E-petitions,Blogs and keeping people informed etc are all worthy pursuits, but a X in a box is the only thing that matters.

I don’t understand. I have a Postal Vote and I am sure that it wasn’t that much hassle to get. Certainly I don’t remember any witnesses, but my memory is about as good as yours from the sound of it

Why wouldn’t every disabled person not be able to apply for one if they wanted it?

It’s certainly a good idea to apply for one, you don’t have to be disabled to apply.

I’m not convinced that people know about the Postal Vote.I’m thinking that the different societies for ailments and conditions should ensure their members know.I wonder if the MSS would sanction something about it.

I applied for mine about eight years ago, and there’s something rattling around about witnesses. If it’s changed and is easier then good.

I’m not sure if this happens for everyone but before last general ellections i got a letter to apply for postal voting. I didn’t have ms then so voted at the polling station. A massive increase will show that people effected by illness are voting in the thousands, maybe a tide turner for the gov? Still can’t believe we cant vote online.

i’ve had a postal vote for 4 years. my husband and sons have one too because they work shifts and odd hours.

i dont remember any problems getting it.

voting is important and people died fighting for the right to vote.

so come on everyone. with postal vote there are no excuses.

if you dont vote you have no right to complain

I have voted since day one. however my hubby only manages to vote if he’s in the UK at voting time, think that’s the same for a lot of people that are UK residents but serve overseas because of their jobs - really frustrates my hubby his postal vote never gets here in time to enable me to send to him for him then to send it back in time to get his vote. Stinks!!!

hiya

i have been using postsl vote for 4/5 years-simple-no witnesses etc. just ticked box for postal vote.

It’s looking like registering for a Postal Vote has been simplified since I started eight years ago…No excuse now!!

Thanks Ells
