Advice needed please !!!

Hi this is my first time on this site and hoped I might be able to get some advice from others going through a similar experiance to myself . After 2 years i have now been diagnosed with ms (relapsing - omitting), I have been told I can have treatment to help reduce the risk of attacks. Has anyone got any advice or experiances of these treatments which they could share with me to help me decide whats best to do. x

Hi Jean, I was also diagnosed recently and was offered a choice of Disease Modifying Drugs (you’ll see them referred to here as DMDs)

The one I am on is Copaxone. This works to reduce the number of relapses a person has and is a daily injection. I chose it because while it does have side effects (skin irritation at the injection site being the main one), it doesn’t have the side effects of other treatments (flu like effect) and so enables me to get on with things.

I had 4 relapses last year so I am hoping to reduce that number this year…

The other treatments are explained here

You will also be able to discuss it with your neurologist and make a choice based on what you feel is for the best.

Go to msdecisions website it will explain you need to know. All the best

Hi Jean and welcome to the site  I would also recommend the msdecisions website. It has good objective info and a tool to help you choose between DMDs. Once you’ve narrowed it down a bit and have some specific questions, fire away  Karen x

Yep msdecisions is the way to go.

I chose copaxone as it fitted my way of life the best, and I haven’t had a relapse since I started May 2012,and the year before I had 4.

At the end of the day there is the likelihood you will have side effects from all of them and for varying lengths of time. You have to do your research decide which you think suits you best and then take a leap of faith…but I will take my lumps and bumps without a care as its keeping the MonSter at bay.

Even if you are needle phobic there are some devices that mean you never see one,and trust me I never thought I would choose to stick a needle in myself daily but its second nature now.

Take care

Pip

Thanks for the advice really appreciate it x
