Advice needed - Getting wheel chair bound person up the stairs

My mother suffers with MS and is wheel chair bound. I recently moved in to my first flat which is located on the first floor. I tried to find a property with a lift but they were either too expensive or kept breaking down.

I am trying to find a solution to enable me to get my mother up and down the stairs in a safe manner. I have contacted the MS Society as well as the Disabled Living Foundation who recommended that I purchase an ambulance/evacuation chair.

The problem that I am having is that I do not have any idea which chair to purchase. I am very weary that if the chair is not made properly that Mum could end up falling through it and down the stairs. Does anyone have any experience with evacuation chairs, advice or any recommendations?

Thanks you very much!

hi there they sell ambulance chairs on the website careco you can phone them on 0800111474 they cost 90 pounds looks like what you want hope this is helpful to you x

Hi, it sounds a difficult problem. I think it would need 2 people to carry your mum, in any chair. But I suppose you`ve already thought of that, eh?

if you want your mum to come to yours on a regular basis, have you thought about a stairlift, you can get a second hand one cheaper, its going to be too hard trying to get her up a flight of stairs,on your own, needless to say very dangerous too.
