3- yearsCare home in the West Midlands

Hi,
Am new to this forum. I was diagnosed in 2007 so it’s been 16 odd years now.
My case is a very odd one but I have concluded I need a care home now.
I am the youngest of 4 am 55, currently living with my brother & sister.
I have always been getting worse but a new legion 3 years ago means I can’t stand anymore.
I live in Birmingham so I think a care home in the West Midlands is the way.

Hi, have you thought about having full time care at home? Or is that not a good idea as you live with your family?

moving into a care home is a big decision.

Best wishes for whatever happens. May the good Lord be with you xx

I’m not sure that it’s as simple as deciding it’s time for a care home.
First of all care homes are expensive.
If you are not in a position to pay, and it is what you need, then it’s either going to be the local authority or the NHS who will have to fund it.
I’ve no idea where you begin to begin the process of applying for nursing home support but am guessing probably through social services and/or your GP in the first instance.
If you already have a care package in place then that would probably be your first point of contact to discuss this.
If you don’t already have carers other than the family you share a home with then consider contacting social services, adult care to see if you can get support to remain at home.
That too will probably be means tested but it sounds like you need advice, help and assistance from health and social care professionals.
