Worried that I have MS

Hello,

I feel like there will be many post similar to this here but I would really like people’s opinions on my situation.

About me: 31 years old, gave birth by c-section 1.5y ago. No major health issues.

about 1 year ago I started feeling this numb tingling sensation across my upper back between my shoulder blades. It kept coming and going. I then fell down the stairs (not related to balance, slipped on slippy material) and hurt my back lower down (exactly where I had a spinal for the c-section). I still get pain here when doing certain activities. Then about 2 months later I started experiencing random twitching all over my body on and off through the day including face. Maybe about 3/4 times a day in different areas. A few months after that I went to the doctor and he did some neurological tests in the office and they were all fine. I then had two sets of bloods thinking about thyroid or nutrient decencies done and they came back fine. I also have had a recent eye exam with scan and that was also fine. I was sent for an MRI in February and I am waiting for the results. I had a call from the receptionist at the doctor saying that I would be getting a routine appointment in a months time to discuss my results. This makes me think that there was nothing on the scan because surely they wouldn’t wait a month for results if it was something bad. Recently I have had an aching/heavy thumb, wrist and forearm most days and this has been going on for about a month. I am now starting to think that I have also developed an unusual gait in the last few weeks. I have also convinced myself that i have started to slurr my words. I am just overwhelmed with worry and have basically convinced myself that I have Ms. I am thinking about it almost every moment of the day and it’s ruining my time as a new mum. Sorry for such a long post. I basically want to know what you guys think about my symtoms. To summarise over the course of a year:

  • numbness and tingling across both shoulder blades on and off throughout the day
  • Stiffness and aching in thumb forearm and wrist on right side
  • Funny feeling in right leg as if it’s taking more effort to walk with it
  • Random twitching all over body every now and again
  • Feel like I am slurring my words but no one else has mentioned it
  • 1 episode of dizziness last week that lasted for a few hours but I also was having sinus problems related to a cold

Common MS symtoms I haven’t had:

  • no fatigue
  • Potentially ok MRI (assuming)
  • No eye problems

Do you think I could have MS or do you think it could be compressed spine issue and health anxiety?

Hi Kayleigh.

To be honest, those symptoms could be caused by quite a few things. I know it’s easy to say but, try not to worry about all the maybes until you’ve had your next appointment (do keep a record of your symptoms ready for that) :slightly_smiling_face:

The nice weather is back at last so, please do try to enjoy being a Mum :+1:

take care mate.

Jon.

I am sorry that you have this worry on your mind. You’ve done the right thing in flagging up the issues you have been having with the GP. Nothing for it now but the buckle in and wait for the process to unfold as they try to find out what, if anything ails. I hope that you get to the bottom of things before too long and it turns out that you had nothing to worry about - or at least that whatever has been happening stops happening, never to return.

Hello just read your post not sure if it helps but I had to wait six months for my results from a lumbar punture, there was a communication problem, the MRI the same, I can understand your worry though. it’s just that they are so busy ,at least they are taking your symptoms seriously I hope you get the answers you need soon.
