Dr. Geoff- the idea that the MS Society is ‘neglecting’ branches is not only entirely false, but the opposite of what is actually occurring. We’re fighting harder than ever for them.
As I said in earlier post, we are struggling to keep them open due to lack of volunteers- especially from a younger generation. This was published yesterday:
“Volunteers are desperately needed to take on roles with the Ribble Valley branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, with four major committee posts becoming vacant in May.”
Tv hmmm interesting idea but i feel the Tv is so full of begging ads these days that most folk as someone said above pops out to put the kettle on , as some of you are aware i did many years in the RNLI and saw pounds wasted but also put to good use , myself and my wife did a charity auction and raised 2k for Cancer Uk , i help a motorbike charity NABD by being a Rep for Cornwall to try and do my part and i have joined the MSS as of last week.
Okay to clarify all the above i joined the RNLI because a local fishingboat was lost with all hands and this made me want to help , we did the Cancer Auction because my wifes dad died of Cancer and unfortunately my wife has it too now , i joined the NABD because i wanted to help folk keep riding no matter how ill or disabled they are and lastly i joined MSS because i got diagnosed.
Unfortunately alot of folk follow this pattern they only volunteer or give if its something they can relate to and an awful lot of folk cant relate to MS , i know i couldnt at 1st , i see the Tv ads for Dogs & Donkeys and i always wish i could give more but i cant and alot of folk just cant give , i personnally think theres exciting & changing times ahead , like i think Tv ads are finished theres just too many now but what is growing on a daily basis is the internet and raising awareness through the internet has never been easier and the audience is huge Facebook opens up a huge door and if everyone keeps sharing eventually i am sure the message will get out there , i used to make Dvd’s of motorsport events in Cornwall now i just film what interests me as and when i can and i intend to put a small ad if allowed(gotta contact Hq 1st) of MSS on the front of any films i make and then put on my Youtube Channel.
I think the way ahead is both exciting and unlimitted in audience size …& the internet is free… (well apart from provider bills)
