White Blood Cell Count

Hello I was wondering if I could ask for some advice. I am a long term limbolander (since 2008) and haven’t being diagnosed, so I am not on any treatments. I had a routine blood test for chest pain, which showed a lowered white blood cell count which they are going to do some more tests. I was wondering if MS itself can give you a lower white blood cell count? I don’t want to fall into the trap of thinking everything that is ever wrong could be MS, plus any information on the internet only refers to people on treatments. Does anyone know if the condition itself can effect white blood cell count or not? I’m just curious? Any advice mucho appreciated :O)

Hi,

I’m not an expert, but I don’t think MS affects white blood cell count at all. Or certainly not usually. If it did, it could be used as a blood-test for MS, and we know there is NO blood test that reliably points to MS, let alone proves it, so I’d say that no, MS doesn’t affect the blood.

Some of the treatments for it certainly might, which is probably why you’re only getting internet hits about that. But if you’re not on any such treatments, it clearly can’t be that, so my bet is not MS, something else.
