Waiting for a neuro appointment- do these symptoms resonate with anyone?

Hi everyone,

I’m a 24 year old female and have been suffering with some issues since October last year (2020). It started off by being told I was getting frequent UTI’s, I did find that I was needing to use the toilet a lot more often and couldn’t seem to hold much liquid in me for very long. I’m someone that used to be able to drink a large water before bed and not wake up until the morning, since around October I still wake up at least once in the night for the loo even if I go right before bed and avoid any liquid for a couple of hours before. I went to the doctor due to this and a loss of sensation during intercorse which I had noticed around the same time.

At this point I hadn’t even thought about MS of course, I saw a bladder specialist gynaecologist who did a CT scan and ultrasound and all ok. While this was happening I got a sore throat that lasted almost 8 weeks! It was on one side almost as if there was a lump there, I had to go to ENT and had an mri on my neck eventually which just showed a suspected viral infection.

This is when the more MS type symptoms started. My neck in the exact place my throat hurt (right side) feels like I have a pinched nerve in it, I have regular tingling in my chin also on the right side which started in January this year. I also experienced some bubbling sensations in my head on the right side for a couple of weeks but haven’t had this since. Still no sensation during penetrative intercourse and over the past week my calves have been aching for no reason (no proper exercise other than my usual walk to and from the station to work) I’m not over weight, and now today they are both tingling and almost feel a bit ‘full’ and tender if that makes sense to anyone?

I don’t want to sound like a hypochondriac at all, I am never usually unwell but I just haven’t felt right for months.

Waiting for a neurologist appointment but wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

I know that viral infections can be a suspected cause for MS from what I’ve seen and it all seems to have started with the sore throat. Feeling really insecure due to the sexual issues, and the little tingly/odd sensations and bladder issues are a constant reminder that something doesn’t seem right.

From what I know, younger females more commonly get the relapsing remitting one but this doesn’t seem to be coming and going?

Sorry that this is so long but I’m just really confused and itd be great to know if anyone has had a similar situation.

I see no one has yet replied, so I’ll jump in.

You’ve got quite a lot going on, but much of what you describe could be from a range of causes. At least you have got an appointment with neurology, so it will be investigated. Can’t really help beyond that, except to say try to keep from worrying too much. Hopefully you will get the all clear, from the neurological side, anyway. It may just be attributed to a virus, and gradually resolve. Viruses are strange things, and the way our immune systems respond it is not that uncommon to give rise to tingling, muscle aches and other symptoms for quite some time afterwards.

Hi Ziola,

Thank you very much for replying I really appreciate it. I didn’t realise that viruses can do that so that’s helpful to know thank you very much. I will try not to worry. Totally appreciate these symptoms can be from a range of things so my fingers are crossed!!

My thoughts go out to anyone who has a real diagnosis too, I don’t want to come across as an over thinker.

I wasn’t expecting to lose sensation ‘down there’ at my age (no disrespect to any ages) but it just seems to not be massively common at 24 from what I have understood from my GP and from research I’ve done myself. I think this is the main thing that’s making me question MS. The other symptoms I can shrug off to other reasons but when I put it all together it seems to point me to neuro issues.

Sorry for TMI anyway. Best wishes

Hello, i have just been diagnosed at 52 and had numbness from the waste down and frequent trips to the loo but that has gone now. Just wanted to say i have heard that if you have MS at an early age it can be RRMS you can have a full and happy life a Mum i know with MS got married again and had a boy and is now travelling in a camper van round America. I am not sure if that helped and hope that you don’t have it but wanted to say its ok and try not to worry. X
