Vit D/neuro appointment/hormonal links?

Hi all

I currently have ON and have previously had periods of numbness/tingling (torso and thigh, and to a lesser degree my hands) and I had a lateral muscle palsy in my other eye a few months ago. I would say most of my symptoms have shown themselves in the last two years. My memory has been a bit on the dodgy side since I had my son but he’s nearly fourteen so I can’t blame baby brain any more! It’s getting worse anyway.

My GP ran lots of blood work which is now back. B12 is at the lower end of normal but GP said it’s not to blame. He called me last night to say that my Vit D is off the scale deficient. He said its possibly a co-factor in what’s been going on. I understand Vit D can play a role in auto immune conditions such as MS? Does anyone know more about that please?

Given that the bloods haven’t shown anything else that might be responsible I’ve decided to go private to avoid the 16 week wait in my area. I’m booked in to see the same neuro but in just over two weeks time.

Ive been signed off work at the moment because I work on computers and I’m finding it hard with the ON, and I’m so anxious about all this I may as well not be there anyway! I’m super hormonal too (doc thinks I’m becoming peri-menopausal at the grand old age of 39) which probably isn’t helping matters either!! Does MS link with hormonal changes at all?

So many questions!

Thanks

hi nic

if it’s just your B12 and Vit D that is causing your symptoms - well you lucky girl!

the hormonal thing reminds me that i had my menopause at 40 yrs old.

ms diagnosis at 50.

wonder what i’ll get at 60?

Hi, I hope you don’t mind me asking but what is ON? I have read about the vitamin D connection but I am not deficient and have taken vitamin D3 supplements, magnesium and vitamin K2 mk7 for the past two years. I also take vitamin b complex so my b12 is also fine. Good luck.

Hi Carole

It’s not the B12 (which is within normal range), and the GP reckons the Vit D deficiency might be a co-factor rather than the cause. I read something somewhere about links between low Vit D and MS and wondered if anyone else knew anything about that.

Fingers crossed your 60th brings a nice pressie than the last two big birthdays!
