Hi,
Does anyone experience this? It’s almost like as the pee starts to come my body responds as if I’m trying to hold it in, as you would if you’re not near a toilet, by essentially slamming my urethra closed like a prison door .
It means it can take an awfully long time to void my bladder, coming as a combination of drops and trickles and having to bear down to force it out.
I’m being taught how to self catheterise tomorrow as urethral dilation didn’t fix the issue, but I was curious whether this is something anyone else has experienced?
Hi CC1. I ( a man) had something like this problem for years. Somehow or another i learned to relax something to do with my bladder and these days I sort of have the opposite problem - need to get to the toilet quickly!
I’m not quite sure what it is that I relax - something to do with bladder/urethra. I think I just try to relax myself and the whole area. Occasionally, if I’m in a bit of a rush I can again find that something clamps up so I take a few deep breaths and try to relax myself.
Hope this helps.
Hi CC1
Yep, totally understand the “You shall not pass!” urethral behaviour; that’s what led to me having to self-catheterise, a bit weird at first but it does get easier and doesn’t take anywhere near as long to empty the bladder. Have yet to have a UTI since starting - used to get several a year before ISC began.
