Guys Turned up for MRI today and they said the ms specialist asked for brain MRI with and without contrast as specialist requested they check the blood vessels with contrast as well. Ok so that’s good right? However something weird happened afte they had done the without contrast bit the radiologist came in after having a look and said “we don’t need to use contrast, we have all the information we need from the scan without using contrast” Now Im confused what does that mean? Could it mean that the was nothing there without in which case surely they would have used contrast as requested to double check or could it mean that they found something without contrast and so didn’t feel the need to use it? I am mow very worried and concerned and am racking my brains as to why they wouldn’t have done as requested?.. It makes more sense to me that something was found without so they didn’t need to do with contrast. Is it usual for them to decid not to do as asked if nothing was there? Surely if nothing was present without contrast they would have done it with just to make sure they covered all bases? Please please tell me your opinions or what you think and don’t worry about being honest I’m a big girl and can take it lol. Much love to you all Jojo xxx
This has happened to others who post on here so they are better placed to advise.
A lot of places do seem to have handed over authority to radiographers about who does and doesn’t have scans with contrast, no matter what the neuro has put on the referral. (Budgets?) I think that the images are quickly reviewed by a radiologist to see if more scans are needed, but I really am not sure. (And I remember at least one person saying that their neuro was very p’d off when he found out they hadn’t used contrast.)
It is probably not worth dwelling on. If they got what they needed, great. If they didn’t, then they (and you) are going to have to do it again

True, but how annoying. They better not have decided that I didn’t need it as I paid privately to see neuro and do not want my money wasted coz they think they can do half a job! I will make a serious complaint if that radiologist decided that I didn’t need it as its not her place to decide that.
