Hello everyone,
I just finished taking steroids to reduce the inflammation and reduce the symptoms, so far so good I’m felling much better, the symptoms have settled down but it still hasn’t completely gone. Now my main concern is the side effects of the steroids, I’ve heard that it may raise blood sugar and increase water retention in the body, now my question is, are 3 injections enough to cause that much difference in my body with respect to the things I mentioned earlier or should I be worried and go do a blood sugar test or something?

When you need steroids you need steroids and nothing else will do what they do. Like all big-dog drugs they come with hefty potential sides, as you have observed, but there’s no point worrying about that when you have a bigger goal to think about which is damping down the wildfires in your CNS.
My approach has been not to take them until I really need them but then taking them without hesitation when that moment comes. I think of high dose steroids as being like calling in the army to quell a civil disturbance: you only do it when you really have to and they’ll do a job for you, no question, but don’t expect it to be pretty.
If you’re young and strong you should be absolutely fine. If you’re worried about anything, however, do seek proper medical advice.
What I would say is that a good way of minimising steroid use in future is by minimising the relapses that require them. That means being on an effective disease modifying treatment.

Hi
I agree with Alison in the fact that steroids certainly do the trick, but because of the side effects only have them when absolutely necessary.
All the best
