The freedom of a wheelchair.

Hello.

Quite a few people have posted their concerns about giving in to a wheelchair. For me, the progression of light use to reliance of the walking stick to using an electric wheelchair for everything has brought forth a panoply of emotions. The same can be said for giving up driving. All I can say is that my chair has given me a new lease of life. I am lucky that I live in a town with reasonable public transport and taxis.

Here’s my account of last weekend should you wish to read it.

Apologies to residents of certain parts of the Wirral but I was just being ironic.

Best wishes, Steve.

So lovely to read that Steve. It felt like I was there too.

You are indeed fortunate to have such lovely friends. Fortunate too to accept needing to use a chair and the bravery and determination to make the journey. I mean, your wheels are now your legs, yeah? This uplifts me, as I ponder how different/difficult my life might become as I find I need to use my self propelled chair more and more.

I admire your “get up and go” and determination. You’re affable nature shines through your blogs. I must try to take a leaf out of your book.

Cheers

I am a great supporter of wheelies, be they leccy, self propel or attendant push…but the latter aren’t as much fun!I

I often shock my carers when waiting to cross a road. I watch the lights and make a quick getaway, to their shocked shouts of…‘She’s off!!!’

My wheelie is my legs. Without it I would be bed and housebound…no fun in that!
