Tecfidera stomach problems

Hi… I have been on Tecfidera for 6 years and have over the last year or so had reflux with the medication (some of it was because I was not taking it on a full stomach). Recently, it has got very bad despite taking to with a full meal. I have stomach pain and indigestion. Think it was made worse by taking the generic version.

Has anyone else experienced this after years of taking the mediation? Do any fellow users have any tips to help? (Struggling at the moment )

Hi, i have been on tecfidera from July 2015 to recently when they changed it. I still do have problems every now & then, acid reflux and flushing. I found that taking the tablet with full fat greek yoghurt helps a lot. I also take kefir.
Hope this helps a bit.

Hi, I have had the same problem, Ive been on Tec since 2015 and all was good until they changed me to the generic version, and like you terrible reflux and stomach pain, they swapped me back but it made no difference, I cant tolerate fatty foods or large meals, mind you any food can set it off. Ive had a gastroscopy to rule out other causes but that was clear, they took me off them completely for 3 weeks but it made no difference, I saw a specialist yest who thinks it could be gallstones so has ordered an mri as theyre not showing on ultrasound as have also had one of those. I feel your pain its awful :sob::sob:

There are no words to describe the stomach pain I had with Tecifedra when I first started it.

I remember what finally REALLY helped was taking Mebeverine HCl 135 mg (check what the brand name of this ingredient is in your country and check with your doctor first).

I honestly thought I would just have to give up on Tecifedra until I found Mebeverine HCl 135 mg.

Hi
Thanks for the tip , im.seeing a specialist atm so will suggest it see what he thinks.

Hi

I wondered if you solved the stomach issues? they’ve taken my gallbladder out which was inflamed and had stones, but still having the pain 4 months post op, so fed up :cry:

Hi. So I think (I now know) it was related to the Tecfidera. I switched to Kisempta in July and everything has been better. Have you asked the MS team about this as a side effect, mine were great and told me that they it may have been a sign that Tecfidera had stopped working for me.

Hi

Thanks for coming bk to me, I did mention it to them way bk when, they took me off for 3 weeks but it made no difference, maybe it wasn’t long enough, can you remember how long after you stopped taking it before the pain etc went away? How are you finding your new meds? Xx

Hi, it settled down fairly quickly but by then I was off and on with the Tecfidera. The Kisempta is a god send, one injection a month, not having to worry about eating it on a full stomach. I work in the NHS and do a lot of on calls so some times I was having my evening dose at 11pm before bed and that wasn’t good. Tec was good for me and I think it helped minimise progression but glad I’m on kisempta now.

I also tried yoga and breathing techniques that occasionally helped with the reflux.

Hi

Thanks for the reply, was it weeks or days do you think? I only cake off for 3 weeks but it had no effect , if I thought it was the tecfidera I’d come off it in a heartbeat, but uts been so good I’m scared too in case it’s not that that’s causing it all. I’ve got a gastroenterologist appt on 23rd so I’ll see what they think first I think, I’m just lost and really haven’t got a clue what to to tbf x
