Dimethyl Fumarate - Tecfidera

Hi,
I have been on Tecfidera since 2015. I had occasional side effects, mainly flushing which would appear quite quickly and go after about 30 minutes. Recently the supplier has been changed. Since taking the new one i have had constant flushes, 2-3 hours after taking the tablet.
I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing side effects?
Thanks
Anna

Hey Anna,
I started on Tecfidera in 2016, was swapped over to a generic version (made by STADA) of Dimethyl Fumarate about 3 months ago. I’ve had a few problems, flushing, stomach issues but the worse of these new side effects is acid reflux, which I’ve never suffered from in the past. Keeps me up at night, not much fun.
I’ve enquired about switching back to Tecfidera but waiting to hear back to see if that’s possible.

Hi, been on Tecfidera for nearly 7 years, last few months have been a generic version.
I had hot flushes for the first few weeks of starting but they faded and next to never appear these days. Generic Tecfidera makes no difference either.

Iv been on it since spring 18. Last relapse was spring 19. Changed to generic version 6 months ago with no changes to side effects.

Hi Anna,
I’m similar to you, been on Tecfidera since 2014 and flushes are my worst symptom. Since starting the new generic dimethyl fumurate I’m often getting acid reflux which I never ever suffer from, and I really do feel like I’m about to be sick for several hours.
Going to talk to my nurse about it but worried that won’t be considered a bad enough symptom to switch back. I just don’t want to take another drug for a new drug as there exists a drug that doesn’t cause this!
Good luck everyone x

Hi there,
I am exactly the same on generic (stada) i have had awful acid reflux and really bad flushing. I have been in touch and they are putting me back to Tec as i said i cannot cope taking these, that will take weeks to switch but it has scared me to take them now.
I noticed more heartburn and it kept getting worse. Its been awful. The last 4 weeks. I started mid december so strange , really dissapointed.
Hope you are sorted and feeling better

Strange this, you would think that the ingredients would be exactly the same as original Tec, therefore would not cause any other side effects (or more often) in a generic version beyond what you experienced with the original version.
As others have said, it made no difference at all to me.
