Does anyone else taking tecfidera have a constantly runny nose?
I have been taking it for about a year and a half and it’s really annoying and makes me feel sick most of the time!
I’m also taking other meds but I have started those/changed onto those since the tecfidera and although it’s been worse recently it has been going on since before I stared the other meds.
I’ve had hayfever for years; it’s in my family. I take Fexofenadine tablets (Telfast) and use Nasonex spray. Both are on prescription. I’m quite ‘snuffly’ at the moment and I’ve noticed that in the south of England it’s high - tree pollen - which bothers me
in fact, i had worried that an immuno-modulatory drug would increase the frequency of my catching colds and flus. but this has not happened.
if anything, my overall health has improved since diagnosis, but i attribute this to my lifestyle and dietary changes more than anything else, especially not the tecfidera.
I’ve never had hayfever so I don’t think it’s that.
Yeah I thought I’d get more colds but it’s not a cold it’s just a constantly runny nose. The last time I had my bloods done my lymphocytes were fine so I’m just really confused!
Hiya Crafty, I started on Tecfidera 3 months ago and for the last 6 weeks or so have a constant drippy nose. I also get the flushing or “Beetroot Chops” as its affectionately referred to in my house. I also now have to take Lansoprazole for the indigestion plus Ive noticed I’m getting quite a bit of joint pain which may or not be caused by the pills. Tbh I’m starting to think the side effects are becoming too much of a hassle and when I have my next visit to neurology nurse next month I plan to discuss other options.
I started Tecfidera on Thursday and constantly have a runny nose!! I look like I have the worst sun burn and today have had a headache and feel really run down.
Oh dear Award, sounds like you are suffering. The side effects may well settle down after a week or so. Make you could talk to your GP about taking a low dose aspirin to help with the flushing. Good luck
Thank you for your reply. I am going to ring the GP tomorrow to discuss the Asprin. Hoping the side effects will settle down and it is just my body adjusting.
YES… on Tecfidera for one year. For last 9 months I get runny nose 3-5 hours after taking and last for a couple hours. I noticed it runs more when I am in a cold environment. Additionally, I get sick every 3-4 weeks. I switched to ultra low fat diet (vegan) and all symptoms have disappeared. I would love to stop taking this drug but… To take or not to take?
I think you are better to stay on the Tecfidera despite noticing good changes when switching to vegan diet. I am on it as well and my last MRI has showed I have no more activity from my RRMS. This drug will apparently slow down relapses which is what we all want. When I first started it I did have a few hot flushes which is embarrassing for men but these have now subsided.
Would prefer not to spend a lifetime on drugs such as these but I adopt the attitude-if it is working stick with it.
I’ve been on Tec for approx two years now and although I do not suffer from a continual runny nose I do get a sudden rush of “gunk” from time to time if I bend down to get the milk out of the fridge, for example. It’s not clear stuff but a yellowy greeny colour. Yuck!
I think it’s worst in the summer months so possibly hay fever related.
A few people on this post have spoke of the flushing from Tecfidera. I’m about to begin medication for my MS and I suffer from Rosacea which causes flushing. Being a man it is rather annoying as we don’t (well most of us) go down the make up path! Just wondering if anyone on this medication has Rosacea and if so what was the reaction like?
Been on Tecfidera for over 4 years and always have a runny nose, some days are worse than others, try not to think about it, nothing to do with hay fever. I also have Rosacea, its an old folks problem, had it for 12 years take anti biotics , Erythromycin 250mg four times a day, keeps it under control. Nothing to do with Tecfidera Just stick with it has stopped my relapses WISHED I had it before my relapses which caused me to be disabled. Bertie
yea, I been on tecfidera for some months now & I always get a runny nose, it’s most definitely annoying. I also feel nausea constantly but dont throw up, it’s an uncomfortable feeling.
