Symptoms in June and diagnosed last week

Mine started with being clumsy running out with my personal trainer in June. He said I should see a physio so I arranged that with my work Bupa that week. After a couple of sessions she advised I should see my GP. Seen him that week and after an hour long (!!!) appointment he advised seeing a neurologist and asked if I had Bupa and gave me a referral. I called Bupa and they said it was a 8 week wait so made the appointment. My GP actually called me later to check and wasn’t happy with the wait so said he would call them. He called me back later that day and said he couldn’t get them to budge but asked if I could get to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary the next day for a neurology appointment!

He suspected MS so arranged an MRI for the next week and some Parkinson meds just to check for that too. Another appointment with him another 2 weeks after that where he said it was clear but wanted a lumbar puncture to check so that was scheduled for 3 weeks later. In this time my GP called me out the blue to see how things were progressing!

So lumbar results came back positive for MS - likely primary progressive - and he referred me over to the Anne Rowling Centre also on the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where I will hopefully be starting some monoclonal antibody treatment soon!

What a rollercoaster ride over 5 months.

A roller coaster yes, and sorry that you’ve joined the “club”, but actually you’ve done incredibly well to get so much done in a “mere” 5 months! After a year I’m still waiting for the LP results.

Hi Dave,
Wow, bit of a bumpy ride but sounds as though your GP was amazing. Always nice to hear.

Glad you found us and welcome to the club.

you’re going to have to be pushy - the clock is ticking and they are wasting YOUR precious time. sorry to be so blunt. I didn’t want to be pushy or come across as hypochondriac and am now, after being diagnosed and having had a massive flare, on a EDSS scale of 6. don’t let them mess you around any longer.
