I’m going through a bad spell just now. Mobility rubbish. My GP has prescribed Prednisolone steroids. 50mg daily for two weeks then 25mg daily to gradually taper off the drug over another two weeks. Does anyone know how long it takes for the drug to take effect/help? I tried steroids a few years ago and they were amazing, but I’m worse now, probably secondary progressive.
Hi johnh, lots of people seem to be suffering at the moment, iv been put on steroid too, 200mg 5days 100mg 5days 100mg alternat 5 days. Thought mine was low, some people have 500mg for 3/5days. Who knows, mine is helping a bit, I think, on day 5, good luck.
Hi john. This is bad week for me took bad neuralgia. And had no mobility. Had to crawl on floor to get bout. Very frightened as nvr had this before. Phoned ms nurse she prescribed 5oomg for 5 days started yesterday. Within an hour pain on face had gone. And had mobility back in ma legs. Although still shaky and frightened to go out on ma own. Never slept last night believe steroids responsible for this. Got up this morning virtually no mobility again and was shaking. Again took steroids within hour could walk again. This is first time on steroids for me and now concerned what happens when finish course. As i know they short term fix and is there big come down x
that seems like a lo of steriods to take! My GP did the same but then when i talked to neuro they changed the dose as they thought it was too much.
steriods can work really fast depending on the person and the inflamation. the side effects can be pretty sucky, hate not sleeping.
Everybody seems to be prescribed much higher doses than me (2weeks @ 50mg per day)" Will this not be enough ?
Everybody’s body and symptoms will be different. Although I am on high dosage . I.m not sure i will feel when i stop. Does anyone know if these become dependable and are they withdrawal symptoms when you stop suddenly x
The last time I had steroids, two weeks@ 50mg, they were marvellous but when I stopped I had a dreadful crash . Dreadful for two days , then improved but not to ‘on steroid level’. That’s why I’ve been given further two weeks taper dose to gradually stop.

Just spoke to a paramedic friend, he said prob better small dose longer period not so hard on the stomach, don’t want ulser it will last longer too, high dose normally if you got vision probs to get it back quick, your body apparently naturally produces a steroid and they hope that introducing this will start your natural one working again, so give it a chance, don’t stress we all think we need more, my wife says your not getting it. Lol
