Hi everyone my journey started in Sep 2012 with numbness all down left side, my Dr rushed me to ae thinking stroke, however they decided against thbat idea once there. however an mri was ordered. got results of mri in Oct of last year which showed 4 lesions on brain and one on c3-c4. I saw neurologist on 23dec and he wants me to have lumbar puncture which is booked for 9th jan, he has also offered me steroids via iv but not sure. I am in so much pain in my legs. the burning and stabbing is so unbearable some days. I have tried gabapentin, but one makes me feel like I am in space lol… neurologist was really nice he answered all my questions even my hubby asked a few and felt satisfied. my neuro did say if I can cope with symptoms he would recommend not having steroids, but he is not the one in pain. although he did turn to hubby and say she is in a lot of pain as nerve pain is like no other pain. thank you for reading…
Hi You won’t know until you try them. They did absolutely nothing positive for me but others swear by them.
Hello
the steroids for me work a treat. I had numb legs couldn’t stand up for long. Got rushed to hospital and given iv steroids. By the next day my legs were so much better not 100 percent but better than before. their is a limmit to how many doses you can have a year. But you wont know until you try.
Hi Mrs h Thank you for replying, just not sure as I have read best to have them when symptoms first start, which was 4+ months ago…also neuro kind of scared hubby re side effects as I already have ridiculously high blood pressure so he is worried steroids may aggravate it. And hubby has been brilliant since all of this started doing all housework as well as his full time job…on my bad days. I feel very lucky
Hi darren Glad to hear it worked for you…it is sounding like a very personal decision, each to their own so to speak. Thank-you x
Hello and welcome
I would not have steroids if I were you because your symptoms started quite a while ago and steroids work best when started early into an attack.
There are a fair number of meds (including gabapentin) that can help ease neuropathic pain so I would stick with that if I were you. All of these meds have side effects that normally wear off after a few weeks or so, if you can bear it, persevere with the gabapentin for at least that long - once the side effects wear off, you may find that it makes a world of difference to your pain and the spaceyness was worth it. Do make sure not to increase your dose too quickly - it can make side effects much worse. If the gabapentin isn’t for you, there are several alternatives including pregabalin, amitriptyline and other anti-depressants that work for neuropathic pain. Unfortunately, they all come with potential side effects in those first few weeks
I hope things improve soon for you.

Hi Karen Thank you for that, I will persevere with the gabapentin its just I have a 16 month old…which means I really struggle with side effects especially the drowsiness. But hey perseverance is my middle name Bella x
