Hi
Our Son took ill at school a few weeks ago.
He had numbness and lost the use of his right arm. It only lasted a few minutes.
He has had a MRI scan which showed lesions. He also had a lumbar puncture which was positive for MS.
He is struggling with pain in his legs and fatigue. Also some pain in his right arm and some numbness in his hand.
The hospital are wanting to wait and do a follow up MRI in 6 months.
We are going to see the consultant tomorrow for a follow appointment.
What questions should we be asking ?
I’m really wanting to get him on treatment to slow it down.
I have relapse remitting MS
We are shocked he has got it so young.
Any help appreciated
Dear Irons, I can’t think of any particular questions at the moment but will think further. Receiving such news about your son must be so sad and I just wanted to send you and family my best wishes
Thank you Hank_Dogs
Just all came as such a shock to us all.
The website of the MS Trust has a section and resources on MS in children - including a short video on questions to ask. There is nothing of particular note in the video but it might be worth a look?
I think I would be asking if any of the various treatments/ drugs are more effective than others in young children.
The Trust’s website refers to a ‘team’ in support of youngsters: providing a range of support services including e.g in their school studies , emotional support
Thank you.
I will have a look now.
Hello,
I think I was 10 or 11 when I first noticed MS symtoms, albeit the subtle eye floaters and feet pins and needles, I didn’t yet know multiple sclerosis and thought it was normal growing pains.
It was only until late teens when I temporarily lost sight in one eye and had the shooting pains (Lhermitte’s Sign), that I was diagnosed.
Luckily it all got better on its own and went away; it reappeared in my 20s, went away again and then finally stuck around in my 30s.
I think when you’re still young, your body learns to adjust to the condition as you grow up.
I wish your son all the best and hope he recovers his health soon.
