Hi, I have been waking up nearly every day with a headache. Neurologist wants the doctors to test me I assume for sleep apnea ?? Does anyone have any experience of this. Symptoms etc. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I can’t tell you any of my symptoms, other than that I was always tired and never rested, but golly, gee. I have MS. My neuro wanted me to do the whole sleep test thing, so I just went along with it, and it turns out that I did have apnea. I’ve been using a CPAP for about 14 months now, and while it doesn’t help with the MS exhaustion, I do sleep much better now.
The tests are a pain, because you have to go somewhere and spend the night on 2 different occasions. The place I went was set up like a fancy-but-small hotel room, but I just don’t like being away from home, and the testing was set up on their timetable rather than mine. I had to go to sleep at 9 and was then kicked out at 5 am.
The first time, you’ll have tight straps around your chest and belly with millions of electric cords coming out of them. You’ll worry all night about pulling them loose, and they have to disconnect you if you need the bathroom. The second time will just be to test out the sleep machine so they can set it for your particular needs.
If you don’t have to pay out of pocket, I’d suggest taking the test even if you doubt that you have it.
I believe I may have sleep apnea, but I believe it is due to my excess weight

It could help you, too. The underlying cause doesn’t really matter. We’ve determined that sleep apnea runs in my family, but I’m not exactly a lightweight, and my boy’s dangerously large. See if you can get one of your doctors to recommend the test for you.
i`ve been using the CPAP machine for a few years now, took a while to used to it but certainly helps.
I did not realise you had to inform the DVLA if you have sleep apnea but they sent a form to the clinic never heard from them again so report must of been ok.
I have sleep apnea from time to time, it can be horrible, it’s not just the sleeping it’s the waking up unable to breath. Fortunately it doesn’t happen often maybe once a month but I didn’t have it before ms
