Skin problems with gilenya

Hi,

I have relapsing remitting ms, diagnosed in 2006, was on rebif for 10 years then switched to gilenya. Looking to see if anyone else has had problems with their skin. After lockdown and not being on holiday for a long time, I caught the sun and my face looks like it’s dirty lol! I’m going on holiday soon and I’m worried about my skin being more sensitive to the sun. I know gilenya can cause melanoma, so I will be careful, but was wondering if anyone else has had skin changes taking gilenya, or whether it’s just down to getting older!!

Hi @Huntemu … welcome to the ms house. I am not on any meds specifically for Ms but do take a lot for other reasons.

What I do know, regardless of what individual meds say may or may not happen, our skin and hair to some degree are affected by not only the meds we take, but our lifestyle as well.

I have for more years than I can remember taken care of my skin, rehydrated it with a moisturiser, not an expensive one. I still wear a light foundation, I always buy one with an SPF in it. Drinking water, well not so good at that one.

I suffer with a form of psoriasis and eczema so I use a hydrating gel, I use all over to be honest :flushed:

Now will this help you with Gilenya, perhaps not, but my body sure loves a little pamper and for that all that I do is worth it.

Now guys, don’t feel left out, you too can look after your skin. You don’t need to be seen at a beauty counter, any cream is better than none, even Vaseline… (now that does have a myriad of uses )….
