Simvastatin

has anyone been on simvastatin what dosage and has it helped ?

I had simvastatin for a heart related problem and it was apparently a much lower dose than what you are given for ms. It caused me massive joint pain and that is quite a a common downside of it I ended up having to go on atorvastatin. Which caused no joint pain

I’m on 80 mg for ms been on it since July but seen no benefits yet

I’ve just this week started 40mg to start with. I’m hoping for some cognitive improvement. I’d be interested if anyone has any positive cognitive benefits from it, or conversely any other unwanted side effects.

I have been on Atorvastatin since 2000.
The PCT (when we still had them) mandated a switch to Simvastatin (must have been cheaper).
My GP - local cardiac expert - was not consulted.
I had two days of Simvastatin, and severe headaches.
On a phone call, my GP said “Have you any Atorvastatin left? If so, change back now!”

Makes you wonder if the Simvastatin people had seen a possible marketing opportunity.

I think this is info about it, decreases brain atrophy

Hi I have been taking simvastatin the last 4 years I am progresive I take 80 mg it is to slow progression don’t know how you

Me sure that but yes it would seem to help I don’t appear to get any side effects .george

Thanks Sonia, that’s the article I was looking for. It’s the reason I’ve started taking it on the advice of my neurologist. I think he didn’t feel happy not recommending any drugs!! He’s a big fan of DMDs. Even when a person is clearly progressive. So being unable to take any of his speciality drugs left him feeling a bit useless I think.

I was on simvastatin for a good while for high BP.

then it was changed to atorvastatin, as they said there was a concern simvastatin could be harmful to muscles.

just saying xxx

Hi Sue even a low dose of Simvastatin did not suit me as it gave me sleepless nights and nightmares! Atorvastatin made my neck and face swell so I now take a low dose of Rosuvastatin to lower cholesterol Sue
