Hello, I have signed on to this group today for the first time. I have been with my employer (big blue chip company) for 26 years. I am just 54 and have SPMS. My energy levels, brain fog, concentrations levels etc are too much now for me to competently do my job and I would like to take sickness retirement in Jan25. I would like to know if anybody here has successfully got a payment settlement? I am worried about my finances by retiring so early. Thanks in advance for any info on this topic.
Lisa
Every organisation has it own policies, and you need to make yourself familiar with yours if you haven’t already.
There are a range of things that can happen, in line with the policies and benefits/pension scheme membership/insurance cover that form part of your employment contract.
In my own case, I left on the IHR provisions that applied to me and that was technically a dismissal but in practice was by mutual (and mutually-relieved!) agreement.
Hello Lisa,
Welcome. I was sickness retired this year, due to being off-sick from work for over a year, I’m 43.
After exhausting my employer’s satuatory sick pay, I applied for ESA and PIP, whilst awaiting for my employment superannuation.
I suppose ill-health retirement is different from normal “time to enjoy the fruits of your labour” retirement, for me anyway being stymied by the MS fatigue and mobility issues these days, I’m housebound most of the time.
It’s probably not worth worrying about finances in early retirement, it’s more important you concentrate on your health, which is not helped by the worry.
Best regards,
JP
It sounds like a good time to start looking into your company’s policies and see what options are available for your situation.
