I had my appointment today and they said no issues lol Although I have lesions they are not active or new. Positive for Ogliclonal bands but that just means I’m prone to inflammatory disease. No treatment for symptoms just up my Gabapentin. I’m glad it’s not MS but feel like a fraud and I have no clue what’s wrong with me.
She couldn’t tell me what caused the lesions or why my symptoms were worse and not better. Nearly two years of worry to come out with more questions than answers
I really do think different areas do things differently.
I have two lesions, one looked new. But a positive for O bands so I been told I have MS
I’m just so confused with it all she didn’t tell me how many lesions where they were or what caused them. She said one was indicative of inflammatory disease but with no changes it meant nothing. I don’t know whether to seek a second opinion or just accept my symptoms will never go away. She was just so vague I asked questions and she just kept referring back to me taking more gabapentin
I would be inclined to ask for a second opinion especially as she could not answer your concerns.
I also thought (buy may be wrong) that a positive for O bands and with lesions would be a dx.
Wishing you all the best.

That’s what I thought from the conversation she wasn’t the one who looked at my results. I’m just so lost
I also thought if you have multiple lesions in different areas plus a positive LP you meet the Mcdonald criteria.
Is the Neurologist a MS specialist?
If it’s not MS they should confirm what is causing your problems or continue to investigate ?
I had multiple lesions brain and spine but my LP was inconclusive. It wasn’t until a new lesion was found that I received a formal MS diagnosis. This took almost 3 years.
My Neuro did say from day one it couldn’t be anything else.
Do they intend to do further MRIs in the future to monitor you or do any other tests?
Don’t give up seeking answers and help from health professionals. They have a duty to care for you.
I really do appreciate everyone’s replies I feel a bit better that I’m possibly not loosing my mind!
She doubt she was a specialist in MS she really didn’t sound like she had a clue of my situation. I believe I have some in the brain and one in the neck. They offered an MRI next year with a follow up no other investigations. She wouldn’t tell me how I got the lesions other than to say some people get them but she did say I didn’t meet the criteria for MS (no active or new lesions). It was the bands thing that got me I thought ‘healthy’ people don’t have them.
I’ve requested all my medical records and made an appointment with the GP. I did consider going private but she’s the private specialist
Oh lord her clinal interest is MS maybe I need to accept it is what it is
I was given a diagnosis of probable MS before my formal diagnosis and access to a MS nurse from my first MRI scan.
My lesions were in areas indicative of MS.
My Neuro provided a letter at the time saying I have inflammatory disease with demylination to help me provide evidence to Insurers.
You’re definitely doing the right thing requesting copies of your medical records.
Make sure you get a copy of your scan so you can get a second opinion.
Ask your Neurologist if it’s not MS , what is causing your symptoms , what the next steps are , and what your diagnosis is .
Thank you for the advice I’m going to try and approach it as no news is good news
I had (and still have) 3 lesions in the right side of my brain, which are apparently nothing to do with the symptoms I presented with. They have not changed since 2013 when they were first noted. I have positive oligoclonal banding in my csf. It wasn’t until 4 lesions showed up in my spine that MS was diagnosed (they weren’t there 8 years previously). You would usually have to have lesions at different points in the CNS and at different times: eg. One lot of lesions in 2014 a different lot in 2022.
That’s makes sense to me maybe she didn’t explain it well enough lol I think it’s the lack of any explanation or treatment options to help me manage a bit better.
I was told they did not have to prove time now only space. The positive lp can replace the time. I only have on systom and apart from this never had a relapse
Thanks you that’s useful information. I move next week yes I am that silly! Once I have successfully survived im going to do some serious research
I don’t really know what to make of that either. ‘No issues’ gave me a wry smile, though. I am sorry that the consultation left so many questions unanswered.
This made interesting reading on the macdonalds criteria. I have at least one lesion that was inflammatory in natures and multiple other lesions plus positive O bands.
Hi. Where exactly are the lesions? For instance, even migraines can cause lesions.
Hi I have some on the brain (don’t know exactly how many and where as I haven’t been told) and one on my C5 neck. She said migraines originally but I don’t suffer with them never have just get headaches like any other stressed out mum of three she said all my symptoms were sensory and ignored the ones that weren’t
As someone who used to suffer from migraines, I sympathise. Some migraines are “silent”, no pain, but they still happen.
I feel for you I really do, I wouldn’t wish a migraine on my worst enemy! I’m definately keeping an open mind. She didn’t mention migraines as a diagnosis this time I just want to know why my body is like it is whatever the outcome x
