Question about symptoms

Hi guys hope I can get a bit of advice.

How quickly do different symptoms progress usually with MS?

here is a quick timeline;

pins and needles in left hand an hr later went to left leg and numbness in calf

pins and needles in right hand as well as left and still numb calf

pins and needles gone still left with numb leg

dizzyness all of a sudden feeling off balance and numb leg

now pains in hands and feet feels like aching sore and a bit tingly like when you hit your funny bone but constant. Still have numb leg this has never gone and still have dizziness.

Doctor has said dizziness is caused by vestibular neuritis which is vital. But I’m not sure.

Could the the above be MS or are these symptoms not usual indicators?

Forgot to add whether it is usual for MS symptoms as described to come in such quick succession or if MS symptoms generally Coe and go or take a while to progress.

some people say that pins and needles is not a symptom of me but it was my first symptom.

my right foot had constant pins and needles for 4 weeks.

i googled it and was given COPD as a probable cause.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder which can result in amputation!

so went to gp, saw a locum and he prescribed thiamine.

2 weeks later the pins and needles had gone.

however 2 months later they cam back in both feet and both hands.

so went back to gp who referred me to neurology.

10 months later i was diagnosed.

my MRI must have been lit up like a christmas tree!

so try a vitamin B complex as thiamine is B1.

keep a diary of your symptoms and see your gp regularly.

stay well away from google!

remain as calm as possible.

it might be ms but there are a lot of other things it could be.

get your vitamin B12 and D3 levels checked as these can cause symptoms.

Hi Carole thanks for your response. I’m just wondering if that because the symptoms I’ve been having have come on one after the other after the other it couldn’t be MS. I’ve read a lot of forums and blogs which appear to suggest the symptoms with ms progress over a long period of time and that if having a relapse it would only last 2-6 weeks not everything at once that I’m experiencing or in a very short timeframe seeing as 10 weeks ago I was fine!

what do you think?

Hi

MS symptoms are a law unto themselves. They can and will appear whenever and wherever they like. They will also take days to reach their worst, or continue to develop over weeks. A relapse can be over quickly or can take literally months to remit. That’s assuming you have relapsing remitting MS.

However, since many other diseases/disorders share symptoms with MS, your list shouldn’t automatically lead to a diagnosis of MS.

You should perhaps ask your GP to refer you to a neurologist. I wouldn’t do this with the idea in your mind that it could be MS, but maybe just that you seems to have problems that may have a neurological problem as their cause. The neurologist then will do a physical exam and will refer you for tests if s/he thinks it’s required (i.e. MRI).

MRI scan done today. Now just a waiting game.

This afternoon my right ankle and bottom part of leg has now gone numb. Not so numb that I couldn’t feel a pinch just more like a dull feeling.

With all all my symptoms listed above and now this new one I was wondering, aside from MS what else this could be?

my doctor said I was borderline b12 deficient and prescribed a 10 day dose of b12. A really high level.

My folate levels were also very low and I am taking folic acid.

Over the past few days I have had sore aching feet and hands and last night by arm just inside my elbow started twitching and my leg! Not spasms just a twitch.

I guess I’m looking for some reassurance as to what else could be causing me to go from nothing to all the above in only 9 weeks?

it seems everyday there’s something new to add to the list.

I’d be grateful for any advice.

I would at present go for Trasverse Myletis; this brings symptoms to both sides of the body (bilateral) whereas MS symptoms predominantly appear on one side. Symptoms appear very quickly; can be a matter of hours.

I am sorry; this is not a diagnosis; only a Neurologist can do that; only the ramblings of an old geezer.

Do you find if you close your eyes it accentuates your gait? If so your doctor is probably right.

As Sue say’s ask to be referred to a Neurologist.

Hi guys new symptoms presenting now and I was wondering if these are consistent with fibromyalgia?

pains in chest like a stabbing aching pain

bad pains in hands when in cold water

pain in knee a bit like it’s been twisted

headache

aching pains in feet

shooting pains in hand

hands feel sore

twitching in feet, knees, legs, thighs and side of my head

extreme tiredness

think that’s all for now! Are these all typical fibro symptoms?

Hi

As we’ve said before, you really need to be asking your doctor about all these symptoms. If they are really bad, get yourself to A&E, they should be able to see your scan done a few days ago and may be of some help.

Otherwise, in your shoes, I’d get myself to the GP tomorrow. You need a referral to a neurologist who can do a proper neurological exam and interpret your MRI scan.

Don’t forget, we’re not (mostly) doctors, so all any of us can do is advise you to go and see someone who is.

I really do hope you get some answers soon.

Hi I’ve been to the docs and all they have said is ‘we need to wait for the MRI results’ my appointment for this isn’t until the 18th May :frowning:

since my MRI a week ago I’ve been getting new symptoms. Namely the twitching. Just wondered if these were typical of ms or would be considered less likely. I know everyone’s symptoms are different but I have found through forums that the main indicators are weakness, blurred vision/vision problems and foot drop/spasms. Of which I’ve had none of these.
