Possible MS

Hi

I’m having investigations into possible MS and I’m really worried about the outcome. I’ve been suffering from burning, stabbing pains in my leg and foot for the past 2 years which have got progressively worse and for the past 6 months I’ve also developed bladder issues and problems with my balance. My GP referred me to a Neurologist who I saw today and he did a physical examination and tested my reflexes and did some other tests and said that something is definitely not right and I need further tests. I now need to have an MRI scan and possibly a lumbar puncture. The Neurologist said today that at this stage they can’t say what it is for definite but that MS is high on the list of possibilities. What’s worrying me is that both my GP and the Neurologist said there are other things it could be but neither actually named any other conditions it could be! Maybe I’m just being paranoid but it makes me feel like they think it is MS but they just don’t want to say until they have a definite diagnosis. What have other people’s experiences been? I’ve had to wait 3 months for the appointment today and have been told I’ll have to wait 4-6 weeks for the MRI scan then another 4-6 weeks for the results. I’m getting married in 5 weeks then going off on honeymoon for 2 weeks and it’s meant to be the happiest time of my life but I’m worried sick. :frowning:

Hi PinkPrincess,

I know this is all a massive worry. They probably didn’t name other conditions because there are lots of alternatives.

Try not to let it ruin your big day. You can’t change what is happening it’s out of your control. I know it’s easier said than done. Do you have Insurance for your honeymoon because I would look into that and check you are covered (not wanting to add to your worry).

Did you tell the Neurologist you are getting Married? If not I would phone the secretary and tell her or go and see the GP and see if they can help bring Scan appointment forward for you. Sorry I can’t be more helpful I’m sure others here will have some good advice.

Take care

Hi Snowqueen

Thanks for the reply. I did mention to the Neurologist about my wedding and he put in my notes the dates I’ll be on honeymoon so they don’t schedule my appointment for then.

We haven’t arranged our travel insurance yet, it’s on our “to do list”! :relaxed:

Hi pink princess. There are quite a few ms mimics . Even those with suspected Ms can turn out to have something else or a combination of things. I really hope you are able to enjoy yourself on your wedding/honeymoon. You are on the right track . Best of luck Kat x
